2001 grandprix negative camber

I have a 2001 grandprix and the passenger side wheel leans inward at the top. It was in a fender bender when i bought it and I take it the accident caused this, I'm not 100% sure. The control arm/ball joint has been changed and didn't seem to change much. I guess a new strut/spring may be in order. I was thinking to take it to get an alignment just wanted to inquire about changing these things before hand...maybe hub?? Car has about 159,000

one bolt per strut, you replace the bolt in the top hole.

what id do is get the bolts, then hit the shop and hand them to the guy and tell them to use them if needed. or just put them in before hand, but tell them they are installed so they can use them.

Ok cool. I'm trying to get a better understanding of the suspension anyway. Iv heard about these bolts. So Just for informational purposes in this kind of situation If I had taken the car without the bolts they have have told me they had to change or adjust something else? Do they not carry these kind of bolts?

they may have them in stock but they like over charge the hell out of you to remove the stock bolt then install a new one. plus they over charge on the cost of the camber bolts its self.

best to just install it yourself, and tell them its there.

you can also slot the strut where the upper bolt goes, does the same thing, lets the knuckle move. shops also do this and rape you for it. 40 a side i hear sometimes.

once again its some thing that can be done at home, then tell them its slotted.

They alignment shop wanted 75 bucks a camber bolt plus install. I looked at them and couldn't stop laughing but the dude was serious.

i would slot the strut before i'd use a standard camber bolt. the ones in my subaru (stock) up front were a beefy SOB that i'd trust, but the standard one (that's the same from every company, but it comes in a different box) is tiny and even though it's got the locking tab...nah.

Yeah I did notice how thin the camber bolts looked compared to the factory strut bolts. I have no expertise in slotting the strut though.... or what other tools I would need

Oh ok so basically just widening out the hole and use the factory strut bolt? I do have new drill bit set from harbor freight. :)

pretty much just need to slot the hole so the top of the wheel can move when the bolts are loose. you can test the slot too. put the bolt back in loose and push and pull the knuckle. you'll see it move in the strut.

Thanks Ill diff try that out. I'm surprised you guys haven't figured out how to give your car a full alignment yourself..lol

Yep a burr bit would be preferred. A little slot goes a long way and the idea is to "slot" as little as possible. I was setting toe with a piece of wood baseboard and a sharpie the other day in my driveway lol. They drive pretty straight even when things are way off, and your eyeball is usually good enough for limping to an alignment shop for the real thing.
