2001 Grand Prix

My girlfriend has a 2001 grand Prix with I think the 3.4 I cant remeber and I am in Iraq so I cant check. Anyway the car has barley any power. You have to ease into the gas to get the car to start moving and it takes awhile to get going. I put a scanner on it and the only code it reads is for an o2 sensor bank one bad so I replaced it and the other o2 sensor. The car stills acts the same and still kicks a code for the o2 sensor. I am thinking clogged cat but not sure anyone have any ideas? The car has 120k on it. thanks

Its either the 3.1 or 3.8. probably the 3.8. Anyway, there is some issue with the catalytic converters for the 3800s (L36). Sounds probable. get it checked before it blows up.

A friend bought a Impala (3.8L N/A) from a salvage auction and it was supposed to have major computer problems diagnosed from the dealer. When he took the engine cover off, there was a hole in the upper intake manifold. It turned out that the cat was clogged up, exhaust gases went through the EGR and burnt a hole through the intake. Not sure if this is your problem, but it may just be a clogged cat.

Let us know what sounds/symptons it makes exactly and possibly if you can get the car scanned or not. Not just the codes, but an actual scan with data. Need more details.

There is no real symptons. It idles fine and there are no wierd noises. It doesnt rave up in park or neutral and it has no power. I wont be able to get it on a scanner till sometime next month.

Ill bet money its the cat, Ok heres what you need to do... Take out the front o2 sensor out and drive the car around it will be a little loud but if the car drives better then the cat is your issue.

P.S. Driving around with the front o2 out will throw a code. :th_thumbsup-wink:
