2001 grand prix torque strut bracket

Looking for some place to get this, other than our local dealer who wants $110.00 for it.

Already tried googling for "2001 grand prix torque strut bracket", as well as Advance,
Auto Zone, Rock Auto and Ebay. Searched the forum too, nothing useful found.

Mind you, its not the torque strut, mount, bushings etc,...

Its the actual cast/aluminum bracket with 4 holes in it that the torque strut bolts into,
then the bracket bolts into the engine, right at the front valve cover. Its the left side.
Ours broke and we think its whats causing some shake at 40-55mph when accelerating
or with a load on it.

Oh, its the 3800 series motor.

Thanks!

Hmm, that 3800 looks a little different than my son's. His is the GT I think. The ICM is something to do with
the ignition right? Sorry for my ignorance - this is my 21 year old son's car. Here is a picture of his motor,
with an arrow to the part we're talking about. Thanks!

icm bracket is under the coil packs, it has a bar where the upper strut mount bolts to it. (its molded as one piece)

pretty sure if you were to move the plug wires from the coils you can see the bracket better, i looked real fast and im also not coming up with one, not even a pic of one.

junk yard may be the best way to go about it.

to remove it. you unbolt the wires from the bottom of the icm, ( 6, 7 or 8 mm i cant remember) under the coils, take the plug wires off, un bolt the upper strut, (aka dog bone) and then you have 3 bolts on the left side under the where the coils sit and then slide off to the left over the studs. there is a ground wire for the icm to one of the bolt you remove, make sure you put that back where it came from.

if you got a pick and pull junk yard you'll get the feel of it when you take it off the junk car. its a easy fix. pretty sure you need deep sockets too.

@hitman92499 - okay, thanks. Now where to find one other than a dealer for $110.00?

@scottydoggs - hmm, think we're on 2 diffferent pages here. We took the bracket off that
I pointed to in my picture and it has nothing to do with the coil packs. Never touched them,
or anything they are mounted on. Just last week we installed new upper (phenum?) and lower
intake manifold gaskets as well as valve cover gaskets and that bracket had to come off so
that the front valve cover could be removed, but the coil packs stayed in place. Thanks.

PS Or are you saying that you can replace the one we have with the different type one thats
shown in your picture? Sorry if I'm being dense. Thanks again.

Hey gang. Just wanted to say that I did finally find a bracket at a junk yard about 30 mins away. Guy there let me have it for $25.00.

We replaced the old one, and my son said it helped, but the car still has that shake/vibration at 45-55mph or so. I'm guessing its
probably a motor mount?

Any idea as to which mount it would probably be? I guess what I'm asking is there a "usual suspect" that usually breaks the most
often/common, etc, etc,...

Thanks for all the help gang.

pop the hood and watch the engine as you shift it from reverse to forward, if it jumps a lot back and fourth a lot ( move a lot) the lower mounts are shot.

in that case you want to change both the lower engine mount and trans mount. there's write ups here to do them.

the vibration can be a lot of different things like bad tires, bad axle, being out of alignment. and so on.

Hey gang, just wanted to report back that we got around to changing the engine motor mount and the trans. motor mount and it seemed to fix the problem.
The mount on the drivers side was super easy - probably had it changed in like 15 mins. The passengers side was a whole 'nother ball game. Mount was just
completely busted up and everything was compressed. We eventually got it though.

I used the motor mount guide from the forums here, thanks for those great guides and the great advice! :)
