2001 Grand Prix GTP Sputters when cold.

i have a 2001 Grand Prix GTP that has started sputtering during acceleration when its cold (first thing in the morning or after a day of not running). after running for about 20 minutes and the temp is around 85 degrees then it performs as expected. What could be causing this? My check engine light flashes for about 20 seconds and then goes out.

Can anyone suggest possible causes?

thanks in advance,
dean

For those wondering, i found the problem. Turned out to be corrosion on the coils.

i've cleaned the rust off the posts and put some conductive grease on them to prevent the corrosion and the problem is temporarily solved. The connections are poor and the grease actually pushed the wires off of the coils until i gave the wire connections a quick squeeze. New wires are on order.

just had the same problem with my 01 GTP for the first time. its kinda chilly out and it did the same thing for me during idle and driving. what coils are you talking about? the car like shakes during idle lol

Thanks

Hey 01STOCKGTP,

Hippo Machine is correct. i meant the coil packs. Just pull the plug wires off, clean the connectors both sides (or replace them as i eventually did) and put a dab of conductive grease on them. It's like a new car.
