2000 SE -- Window inoperative

Passenger side front window won't budge. Fortunately it's all the way up, but it's a major problem. Doesn't work from either the driver's switch or the passenger switch. Is the motor the only thing this can be? Any tips or links to motors? Thanks for ANY help!
 


could just be the passenged switch,i had a 97 GT that did same thing.got one from junkyard for 15 bucks,fixed problem.
 
it did for me,i might be wrong but i think the driver door sends power to the switch on the passenger side to make it go up and down.usually if teh motor is going bad or is bad.u can hear it make a little straining noise...might have to take the door panel off to near it.id go with a junkyard switch first.
 


could be a motor. if the motor is completely junk you wont hear anything. also if the swithch is bad the drivers side wont usually put that window down, same concept if you had it unplugged. always go with cheapest route. ebay should have both switches and motors.
 
Yeah I looked for a 4-switch module on e-bay but only found 2-switch modules. I don't hear anything when trying to operate the window from the passenger side, but I do think the engine is lugging a bit under the increased alternator load - which would tell me it's the motor. Anyone, throw in your thoughts if you have them - thanks again!

Also, how bad are these motors to replace?
 
the motors are quite easy. once you have the door panel off there are two bolts attaching the window to the motor and then three holding the motor to the door. just unplug the wiring and it comes right out.
 


you may also want to check with a few people on the forum. i just got two rears from GTX not sure if he still has the fronts or not, but there are some guys parting out cars might be able to save a few bucks also.
 
a really easy way to tell if its a motor or not, is to take off the door panel and smack the motor with a hammer a few times while operating the switch. If it starts moving then you have a bad motor, if not it may still be a motor problem. If you have access to a test light backprobe the connector to the motor and operate the switch, it should only light up on one side going one way (ex: the left side lights up going down and the right side lights up going up). If one side lights up going both ways then its a bad motor.

And yes a switch could be the cause. If the passenger switch breaks in the up position then the motor is constitantly commanded in the up position. This may also burn out the motor.
 
Thanks. I was expecting a new motor to be $150 or more, which is why those $50 deals on ebay make me suspicious.
 


believe it or not,autozone or advance might actually have them in stock.i do autoglass and had to replace one in a crown vic before i could install door glass.autozone had it for like 30 bucks.
 
The same thing happened to me. I first tried replacing the master window switch and this didn't solve the problem. Then I bought a window regulator/motor online for about $40. It took me about an hour to install. Good as new.
