2000 Pontiac Grand Prix Shutting off while driving

I cleaned the battery connections because they were bad but other then that i am kind of at a loss. It start right back up if you pop it in neutral and start it but tonight we had to crank it a few time and wait a few mins. After we got it started it died again within a mile but started back up right away while coasting and got us the 5 miles home. Kind of leaning towards a fuel problem. Was wondering what everyone thought and if anyone knows of any test to find out more. It just comes and goes. I just acts like you are turning the key off, no spit or sputters. Radio does not go off or skip a beat.

I already check my fuel pressure and it is running around 47 psi.

I have this EXACT same problem with my 98 Daytona. This has happened about 5-6 times in the 4 years that we've owned it. It hasn't happened in a long time (well before it was working at all, but that's a whole other issue).

The more I looked into it, it seemed more like an ignition issue. I have seen it somewhere on this forum, but never wanted to really dive into it. Try yo search for ignition issues or so?

Though I am glad that this didn't happen to just me... :(
 


wow! you guys are awsome. I was reading through your posts and you mentioned everything that was happening to my 2000 grand prix. lol. The tack going to zero and my low track indicator light would come on but the car would run fine. It randomly shuts off while driving and starts right back up if I throw it in neutral. It was the worst today because it wouldn't even start up after work. I'll try the crank position sensor and let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
 
Hey Spudy. I got it replaced on Monday Aug. 16th, and I haven't had ANY problems since. It starts and runs like new. Thanks again!
