2000 GTP: Still Alive! New Trans?

Re: 2000 GTP: Relay Addiction.

I can use the relay, I have 5 already but these little micro relays are cool. Maybe the little connectors too.

Re: 2000 GTP: Relay Addiction.

So those LED strips you just cut and wire directly to 12v? Do you need resistors or anything else?

Re: 2000 GTP: Relay Addiction.

The 12V ones have the resistor built in and have cut places and solder pads, and polarity markings. You just cut them to length and wire them directly to 12V. There are others out there too that run on 5V and some without resistors to use as you wish, so watch out for those. I actually wished the ones I used for my RC car were 5V so I could have hooked them to an empty channel, would have saved making a battery pack for them.

Re: 2000 GTP: Relay Addiction.

One of these nights when I am flying over Missouri I'm going to look down and see Booba working on his car at night.

Re: 2000 GTP: Relay Addiction.

I think I'm done with lighting on the car, I might do something with the fog lights at some point but that's different. I have a lot of lighting stuff done to the truck, but it's mostly incandescent so that'll be the next project for lights. I wish there was a clear lens head light for those older trucks so I could retrofit them. Oh well.

Re: 2000 GTP: Relay Addiction.

I have an 89, so I'm hosed. 80-86 are good and 92-96 have clear available too. Not 87-91 though, damn it. I suppose I could pick up a spare set and try and sand them clear, but that is a LOT of work, lol.

Re: 2000 GTP: Relay Addiction.

Man, I have done several sets with a hand drill and about 20 minutes a headlight. Even those kits work really well if you follow the instructions. I even used the small 3 cell Craftsman drill and went through one battery per light on some really bad Taurus lights, they will dull up in a few years even if you don't wash the car lol. We have a buffer we use at work for those times where acrylic sheet gets scratched, a little buffing compound and it comes right out, you just have to be careful with the larger one as you'll burn the glass just like you would paint when buffing a car. If you do it by hand you wouldn't be able to hold a glass of water after a while. :th_biggrin2:

Re: 2000 GTP: Relay Addiction.

I'm not a big fan of polishing lights..... I tried it once, had good results, tried it again, and it looked so bad I just bought new lights. Was probably my fault.

I say try the polishing thing, as I have seen some really good results from others. And being it is your only choice. LOL

Re: 2000 GTP: Relay Addiction.

Aren't those the ones that are 2 piece? They have a back reflector and a plastic lens? There was one model of headlight where you could use a hairdryer to get them to separate. I can remember doing that on some trick lenses to make 1 good out of 2 bad ones when I was a kid.

Retro fogs with blazer fogs or fusion fogs.
