I went ahead and upgraded all my RCAs to Livewire and Monsters today. Hey, every little bit counts. Oh yea, I finally installed the back-up camera. It's pretty freakin cool, right when I put the car into reverse the head unit pops over to the backup camera. Music continues to play, but I can change it to mute during revers if I want. Thanks, I figure I'll eventually have to move the camera down to the bottom side of the license plate. I hear there's some law about covering up the state at the top of the plate. I'd really like to remove the key hole on the trunk and put the camera in it's place, but the camera is kind of rectangular...the camera itself is round but it's surround by LEDs.

The frame would bother me personally I would of taken advantage of the keyhole being centered and threw one in there.

At least it isn't permanent the way it sits, I can always change it. I need to head outside and test it now that it's totally dark outside and see what it looks like...

It wouldn't be permanent in the keyhole either if get creative a bit of rtv or window weld will hold it in just fine and if you get the right size camera no need to cut anything.

I looked, but couldn't really find much in the size I needed. I need to see if the LED's actually do anything. If they don't then I can move it to the keyhole no problem, just need to extended some wires.

LEDs are probably infrared for the camera to see.

LEDs are for infrared, so camera stay where it is, unless I have to move it down tot he bottom of the plate to make Mr. Lawman happy. Lately I've been loosing my mind chasing alternator whine on my stereo. All RCAs are run nowhere near power wires (RCAS run down driver side, Power run down the middle, Speaker wires rung up the Passenger side), besides, I've narrowed it down to the crossover\amps (I unplug the RCAs going from HU to crossover and the whine is still there). Today I finished up the trunk, and finalized things a bit more. I moved the sub amp over to the driver side, moved the Infinity amp to Passenger side, grounded each amp to the strut tower (Soldered connections and sanded to bare metal), ran new power and ground for the crossover (grounded to the same location as the Infinity amp), and just cleaned up the wiring. It sounds better, which I attribute to the better grounds, but guess what? I STILL have f*cking alternator whine. At this point, I'm about to buy a damn ground loop isolator. Good news is I gained a ****-ton of trunk space, I'll have pics up of it later.

Picked up a new dash bezel at the JY yesterday to modify for the double din. Turns out i don't need to do any cutting (guess I shouldn't have cut the old one), but I did need to fill the sides in a bit. I sanded the entire bezel down with 220 then wet sanded 320 then 400, then glued in in some back and filled it in with some epoxy. It was starting to smooth out when the rain started, so I decided to put another layer of epoxy down and get it as smooth as I could. second layer is drying for a few hours now, then I'll sand it down. Hoping to paint it metal flake gunmetal, with lots of clear:

do you think I would have a problem if I lowered my car an inch or two with having those same size tires you have? do u think the tires would scrape or not?

They're the same size as stock (outside diameter wise), so you'd be totally fine. On my apparently never-ending quest against alternator whine I think I might have made progress. I had the stereo playing for about 2 hours today while I ran new RCAs (again) and pulled the old ones out and yada yada yada. Then I still had alternator whine AGAIN. Ground loop isolator didn't help, actually made it worse. After fiddling with everything for quite some time I discovered that the source of the whine was the front RCA outputs on the head unit. I only ran the rear RCAs (which is fine, I have a 3-way crossover\line driver to separate everything sound wise), and no sound. Awesome possum. I put the door sills back on and mounted the head unit back in the dash again, and the noise returned. Shut the car down, double check all the connections, and everything was fine.

At this point I was ready to drive the bastard off a cliff, but when I went to start the car it was totally dead, interior lights came on and all, but there was just a click from the starter. Okay, that's fine, I played with the stereo a lot, maybe these cars don't charge that well at idle (even though my CS144 alternator puts out 2-3x the amperage the stock alternator puts out). I jump start the car with the truck, let her run for 15 minutes, then turn on the stereo and there is no noise! Thank Jebus. I shut it down, goto start it again and click, nothing. Mutha ****a. I check the positive terminal on the battery and it's loose, so I replace it with another side post bolt I had from when I replace the negative (they come in pairs), and still get a click. That's fine, maybe since it had a bad connection so it wasn't charging like it should. I jump it again and still no noise, thank Jebus again. Shut the car off after about 15 minutes to get ready to goto work, try to turn it over again after that, and click, nothing. MUTHA ****A!!!! So I jump it again just to get to work and the stupidgoddamnmother****ingpeiceof**** noise is back AGAIN.


So I'm thinking dead battery or alternator. It might even be causing my noise too! I hope. I didn't have time to check my voltage with my DVM since I had to goto work, but I'll be checking it tonight after work...WHat do you guys think? Alt or Battery? could it be the source of my alternator whine?

Looks like it's the alternator. I had a friend jumpstart me after work and I made it about a mile before my lights totally dimmed out and the car died. Then I got a charge from another friend to make it home...lol. I'll get it tested it later.

New alternator is installed and the whine is better, and back to normal whine. It was more of a hum\buzz before. I attribute whine to non shielded RCAs going from the crossover to the amps and the charge wire on the alternator goes to the distribution stud where the head unit is powered from and the amps are powered off of the battery stud. There's about a 0.1v (14.1v and 14.0v)difference between the two, but I'm sure the battery was still charging at the time. System does sound better, there's more mids and the lows are more powerful. My cousin ordered some shorter RCAs that are shielded for me, so they'll be here tomorrow or Friday. That and I'll be running the alternator's charge wire to the battery, I just need to get a stud adapter thing for the battery so I can add another wire.

As far as the dash bezel, It's up to 3 coats (4 in some areas), and I'll probably put a 4th or 5th on, just to be safe. Then I'll wet sand it and clear it 3 times, wetsand, and clear it 3 more times, repeat. It'll have a LOT of clear on it. The molding came out okay I guess, there's one little imperfection, but it's not that bad. Here's some pics of everything:

The cluster bezel is done and I think it looks great! The clear coat, wet sanding, polishing, and was really paid off! This think looks like a showroom finish! I already have a 01+ center console sanded down with 400 grit, so I just need to paint, finish, and all that. I haven't started on the ashtray yet, but it'll be coming soon. As far as the Android stuff, it's running fantastic, with the exception of Torque Pro. I'm having start up problems with it and I'll leave it at that...very frustrating. New alternator all but killed the alternator whine, I finally upgraded to the correct type of side post and soldered the connection, and ran the charge wire directly to the battery. Now my lights almost never dim, and alternator whine is BARELY there. Here's some pics and a video:

Center console is coming along, I have 3 coats of metallic and 3 coats of clear down for now. I'm gonna wetsand it with 1000 grit, then 2 more coats of clear, wetsand with 2000, polish, and wax. I haven't even started on the ash tray drawer, lol. Pics:

The console paint came out really nice I have been considering a metal flake myself or even black with blue pearl in the clearcoat. Good prep work always makes a very noticeable difference.

The CS144 bolts right on to the 99+ alt bracket?
