You don't have too, but it wouldnt hurt. There really isnt that much if the rotor that is removed when turning, and with those basically new rotors you have alot of room to spare.

Cool cool, I'll head out to the "shed of solitude" here in a minute and see what I can come up with, If it started cutting into the rotor itself I'll get it turned. I'm sure I'll get it turned either way I just wanna see if I can make it any better.

Hit it with my die grinder a bit to level out the scratch, didn't take much at all. I think I'll still need it turned.
Anything would be better than this(whats currently on the car):
I still have to do a standard brake job on the rears, buy that ZZP TB adapter plate, and get her legal. Then a tune or box tune, sway bars, new struts, a stereo, etc. It never ends.

Still working on the car, but I did a lot of little stuff today. Money is somewhat tight so I'm doing everything I can that doesn't take money. That way when I do have money all I have to do it buy what I need, put it on, and be a happy camper. Today I put the A\C, power steering, alternator, spark plugs, spark plug wires, belts, and oil filter bracket on. I also pulled the front grille and glued my emblems onto it, it's not permanent, not sure if I like it or not. Basically all I have left to do is the transmission flush\shift kit install, get all 4 rotors turned, new pads in the back, ZZP adapter plate (for the TB), finish polishing the headlights, replace ECT(warranty...this'll be the 4th new one) and few other things I'm sure I'm forgetting.

that rust removal is fvckin brilliant and so simple! kicking myself in the ass for not doing it myself and I work with electronics everyday make perfect sense yet so simple its easy to over look! MAKE A STICKY!!!!

More good news, a buddy of mine's dad works for the city and has access to turn all 4 of my rotors for free, awesome. So basically I just need to buy some pads for the back brakes and I'll be good to go. This same buddy just got a 2000 GP GT for the cost of half shafts on a Buick Century. Once mine is up and running, that one is going under the knife...it needs LIM gaskets and I think a timing chain. We tried starting it and it back fired and caught the engine bay on fire (air tube was off)...that was enteraining...no damage to anything though. That's another build thread though.

W bodies are getting so cheap and yet for the money needed to invest into them to have a nice running car is hard to beat. Good score.

Thanks, it sucks that I've been sinking so much money into it lately, but I'm at the end of the project. When it's done I'll have a car with new tires, new brakes, upgraded\new(ish) engine, flushed transmission with shift kit, and a few other random things. It should be on the road for quite awhile if I treat it right. The only thing I'm worried about is what the transmission fluid is gonna look like when I drop the pan. The dipstick looks okay, fluid just smells old, not burnt, and no friction material floating in it, but I'm still worried since it's a 230,000 mile transmission. I've been tossing around the idea of getting a transmission cooler, but I'm going to wait until after I get a overkill PCM, and some ability to monitor the transmission temperature. If it runs hot at all, I'm getting a cooler, probably with a thermostat so it heat up normally in the winter.
Not sure if the write up will get done today, I'm beat from yesterday. I'm hearing I have a 3 day weekend next weekend so it should get done then for sure.

Going to the JY tomorrow to look around for some GMPP trailing arms, and maybe some STB's (to justify the gas up there too). My friend dropped off the rotors today, they look pretty good, I guess one of the rears was pretty warped to it has a little bit of no-cleanup on the back side. The gash\scratch on the front rotor is still visible, but you can barley feel it anymore. I'll use them until I have a problem with them. I also ordered the ZZP adapter plate today, should be here on Monday. This weekend I hope to get the car completely ready for the plate on Monday, so that means I have to:
Connect exhaust up
Drain transmission (and install DIY shift kit)
Put in TQ converter bolt
Put in Starter
Change Brakes
Change trailing arms
Finish up head lights (lost cause I think)
Double and triple check everything
If I have time I'll rip the rest of the interior out and clean it up (pressure wash carpet, hand clean the sills, kick panels, etc.)
Does anyone know what all cars the GMPP arms were stock on? I know the GXPs and Comp Gs had them, but did Caddy's ever get them or anything like that? I'm pretty much gonna measure one on a GP, then wander around the yard until I see a tubular arm and compare measurements.

HOT day today. Went to the junkyard and bought myself a STB off of a Regal, and my buddy got the same 12 inch brake stuff I did for the same price. Pulled all my calipers off for cleaning, along with the rear brackets\calipers, and installed the new front rotors with the brackets, flat black actually looks pretty cool so far. No trailing arms at the junkyard (other than stock stamped ****) so I bought the Dorman set, which looks 1,000,000 times stronger than stock. Later tonight I hope to finish cleaning and paint the calipers, then tomorrow install them, flush the brakes, install the trailing arms, parking brake cable, etc. basically everything but the shift kit. Then Sunday do the shift kit, and hopefully pull the interior to finish cleaning it.

Everything is slowly coming together, but as always, unexpected things are coming up.
The Good:
Front Strut bar is installed
Front brakes are done
Passenger rear brakes are done
I actually have a parking brake now, damn near everything was broke on that
Coolant Tank is FINALLY back in
All the spark plugs are in and connected
Trailing arms are replaced, brackets are being hot tanked.
The Bad:
Driver side rear brake piston seal was leaking, so that's not going to get here til Wednesday. I also got rained out today, so I didn't get as much done as I'd of liked. I might go back out and work some more. I hope to have her on the road Wednesday or Thursday. Pics:

Whew, LONG night. Headlights are done, but the driver side isn't installed yet since I need to buy a turn signal bulb. Trailing arm brackets are done as well, second one is drying as I type. First bracket is painted and installed. Tomorrow (once I awake from hibernation) I'll get the TQ converter bolts and starter in, replace the ECT, bolt up the exhaust, and hopefully put the shift kit in. This all depends on weather of course. Here's some pics, no pics of the headlights yet, it's so humid out you wouldn't be able to tell any difference in them. The second I walked outside they were dripping with condensation.

ZZP plate came in on Monday, I gotta say, I'm not too impressed. Packaging was basically a ball of tape, and one of the bolt holes that hold the TB down aren't thread all the way through. The threads are pretty dirty and stop about 1\4 inch before the end when the rest of the holes are threaded all the way through the bore. I think there is still enough threads to tighten against the plate, if not I guess I'll have to use washers. I don't have time to send it back and all that, I need this car for when my wife goes into labor. I doubt that I'll ever get anything from ZZP again though.

Tomorrow is the day I hear it run...I hope, lol. I actually hope to drive it even, what a novel concept. I've had the damn car for 6 months and drove it for 3 weeks, lol.
