2000 GTP fuel pump?

My car died on the road on me one day, and it would start for a few seconds the die. I started it again, and if u constantly keep moving the throttle pedal quickly, it will run at 2,500-4,000 rpm. I got it home getting to 80 then coasting and restarting, took it to the dealer and they say needs a fuel pump, has 45 psi and drops off and dies. I did the relay wire cross, and the fuel pump runs, but car starts and still dies. Do the pumps still run and get weak, or is the dealer trying to get a easy $700 from me, and a little fix? Any help appreciated guys.

DO this, takes 5 seconds. See if it works.

couldn't get any other codes on the modus, so had the dealer figure it out so i could fix it. lol. how would you go about checking the crank sensor without pulling it? fuel filter isn't very old, but could be the first thing to try, think i have one in the garage now that i think about it.

i did the wire across the 14 relay i believe to get the pump into high speed, but it still died on idle after a few seconds.

we had the modus plugged in while running and never threw a crank sensor code. never threw the low tps input voltage again either after we cleared it.

well i just went out and bent the 85 tab on the 15 relay, it runs!!!!!!! So that is the fuel pump resistor that is bad then? I wondered how the fuel pump could be out when i could pedal it and get 80mph, dont seem like a bad pump to me. lol. if its the resistor, where do you get the good ones, and how much are they? thanks guys, you rock.
