2000 GTP dies!

I have a 2000 GTP and it dies intermittently:th_scratchhead:, sometimes at the stop light and sometimes at 70 mph. I have had it in the shop with no luck, and I dont want to start throwing parts in it in hopes of finding a cure either (that can have a neg. effect on the wallet!:() any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have'nt noticed the RPM's but I will try to catch it next time, but it is getting worse! died twice this morning and now takes longer to start back up! thx!

my friend had this problem on her car. her dad has owned grand prix's and pontiacs his whole life. he replaced the coil packs and that fixed it. something like that could vary and be many different things though.

It could be a number of different things. I would start with your Crankshaft Position Sensor and then your ignition switch. My moms Regal GS had this issue and the first time was the Ignition switch the second was the Crank Sensor.

could be an ignition module. if they get too hot it shuts the car off and then you gotta wait for it to cool before starting it up again. also the module usually doenst throw a code. you should get a scanner to check for codes. even if the light is off it still might have codes. im also thinkin crank sensor but when mine was fubar i was still able to drive i just had no tach reading.

I agree with daytonaGTP ignition control module. I had an 89 cutlass that would intermittenly shut off while driving and it was that cost me like 90 bucks i think. autozone can test them I believe
