2000 grand prix - wipers only work on high speed

My wipers only work on high speed. When turned from high speed to regular speed, they stop wherever they happen to be. If they are fairly close to the bottom, they will park when turned off completely.

I just spent three hours removing the wiper switch (i.e. turn signal, wiper, cruise arm on steering column) and replacing it with a used one from a junkyard. The problem is not fixed.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is? Of course there is always the possibility that the used switch has the same problem but I'm guessing that's unlikely.

Most likely the pulse board on the wiper motor. Go to a junkyard and see if you can pull one off another car it would be your best bet.

thanks for the reply. Any thoughts on how to check to see if I have power in all switch positions? The connector from the switch has at least 20 individual wires coming from it that go into two terminal strips under the dash. Because there are so many wires, they must all go separately to the wiper motor (i.e. intermittent wipers, low speed, high speed, etc.). I can't see where they go into the wiper motor but I'm guessing that it will look similar.

Get a wiring diagram for your car then check the wires. allatadiy.com has a great service manual, or gpona.com has a free one.
