2000 grand prix - no start

The car begin running erratically, the dash lights flashed and flickered and finally the car quit. It has not started since.

The fuel pump is fine. If the fuel pump is enabled at the engine, the fuel pump pumps and supplies 60 psi on the fuel rail.

However, under normal - turn the key condition, the fuel pump never runs.

The fuel pump never runs because the ECM never sends the activating signal to the pump.

Also, on pin 19 of the ECM, there is no voltage being supplied to the ECM.

However, there is voltage on the fuse fan out box for that particular wire. Tried a jumper wire from the fuse box fan out - over to the ecm voltage supply pin, but the ecm still does not supply enable voltage to the fuel pump.

Checked wiring harness for opens and shorts, but could not find any thing.

This is more than a bit of a puzzler. Over 15 hours in checking and still no start on the engine. The starter spins the motor just fine, but as is right now, no fuel at the rail because the fuel pump is not being activated.

No check engine light and no security light being set. Also picked up new key and when first inserted- received the expected flashing security light. Let the key be programmed per instructions and now the key works fine to turn the car and spin the engine, with no security code being set. So, I don't believe that it is a security code issue.

The big question that I have is why I don't have supply voltage on the ECM voltage in pin, when I have correct supply voltage at the fuse fan out box.

Thanks for any help.

Bad ignition switch... check for power coming out of the switch at the igniton harness coming down the column.

Pink is ignition, white is second ignition
Orange is accessory, brown is second accessory. Odds are your pink main ignition has no output from the switch.

Bad ignitions switches are known to go bad in the pre 03 gps... Something to check anyways.

The car is repaired. The wire running from the ecm fuse through the wiring harness across the top of the radiator wiring harness - was found to be burned in two - on its way to the ECM.

After opening the harness, checking all other wires for damage and finding no other bad wires - the bad wire was cut back and spliced.

The key was turned and the car started instantly.

So, everything was buttoned up and the car sent on its way.
