2000 3.1 auto in need of help

I just purchased a 2000 grand prix with the 3.1 auto. I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew and am in need of suggestions. In order for the trans to shift you have to manually shift through the gears. For instance if you have it in overdrive its threre and if your at a stop it literally tries to take off in overdrive. The lowest gear it will go into is second so I am taking off in second everytime. you also have to manually downshift as well as upshift. It had a shift selonoid code when scanned so the local shop put all three new in. No changes at all. Any help or ideas or experience would be greatly appreciated. thanks, brian

Afraid I don't have any suggestions for you, although I could recommend a local shop I've had good luck with. However, you'd be more likely to get more help from forum members here if this thread were in the correct transmission forum for your car.

Best of Luck,
Valhad

You are not alone. Try looking in the transmission topic, and you'll see this current conversation that sounds very similar to yours. Sounds like some good starting points, at least: http://www.grandprixforums.net/lost-first-gear-will-not-downshift-47677.html

Thanks for the tip. Ty is the exact problem I'm having but I already had Dave at Taylor trans replace all three shift Seminoles inside the side cover of the trans with no change in problem. No blown fuses. Strange
