I know this has been beat to death, BUT.......I currently have one kicker cr15 in my car 2 ohms 1100 watts...Hits great,,,What would I lose by going to 2 kicker cr12's at 2200 watts??? Or would I gain spl???? I dont have the room in the trunk really for the box, amps wiring, etc....Dont want to argue brands, or watts, just some kinda idea what to expect....Am going to put the 15 in my garage in place of the 2 12 fosgates I had in there.....Thanks for any ideas on this....Tom

Let's say upfront I know nothing about car stereo. Ok.. honestly I know zip.

I did a pioneer head unit with boston acoustics stock size speakers front and rear. A 5 channel BA amp and a uhhhh 10" sub in a custom box that took up no additional trunk room. Sounded so good most stereo guys wanted to duplicate it.

IMO if you get the right equipment, you don't need to worry about "bigger or more is better".

Thanks for the reply, the equipment I have already is worth more than my car.....lol...Sony HU, EQ7, biamp setup JL Audio....Just am curious as to what to expect "downsizing" so to speak...

There are too many factors. 2 12s will have more cone surface area so if everything was exactly the same 2 12s would have more SPL then 1 15. But with different subs, boxes, ports, etc there are too many variables. Do you have an IMM-6 calibrated microphone? Test each setup and see what they do at various frequencies.

I dont have an IMM6 mic, just a cheap db meter, and pink noise generator, but that is a great idea...Think the 2 12's win either way due to space considerations....Thanks all...

Download the calibration file. Install in Android or Apple flavor of your choice. I use it to EQ my head unit and set gains. It is pretty awesome. And cheap too! Also used to EQ my home theater. The older I get the more I gravitate towards SQ instead of SPL. I run a set of Image Dynamics 6.5 CTX65CS in the front doors pushed with a 150 RMS and they eq real nice. No rear fill. Sound great. But I have also done quite a bit. Dynomated panels that resonated. Mass loaded vinyl to block exterior sound. Added sound insulation in cavities and above the MSL to absorb echoes. Really lowers the ambient noise and helps stops the reflected sound.
