1999 GTP Oil Leak

Hey guys, new to the site here and need some help with. I just bought the car week before christmas and its been fine besides some small mishaps but thats common of course. The car has 143xxx miles on it as we speak and is honestly a really good car so far. So I drove homee work wednesday and smell some burning oil like it was dripping on the exhaust but was fairly close to home so I didnt think anything of it. Thursday morning rolls around and I head out to let the car warm as usual and went back out to go to work about 10 minutes later. Upon getting in the car I noticed my low oil level light was on, shut the car off and check the dip stick. After checking 3 times and noticed all the hole were dry every time I ended up puttin 2 quarts in that I had left over in the 5 gallon jug. So heres where it gets good, I had to run back home and as I entered my driveway I noticed a puddle of liquid so I got out of the car and put my finger in it and of course it smelled like oil and felt like it. Now the puddle was about 8 inches in diameter and a good size thickness of it. Jacked the car up and seen some good drips coming down and its on the rear of the engine on the passenger side. I only have a tiny harbor freight jack to use but I was able to get underneath enough to look up in there but I didnt have a flash light to check exactly where it was coming from. It looked to be dripping on the the axel assembly and running down that onto the frame but for more than 2 quarts to exit the motor is beyond me right now. Hopefully this is understandable im replaying the whole 2 days of this in my head as I type it out lol. Thanks in advance for any helpful information and I greatly appreciate it.
 


Check the oil pressure sensor right above the passenger side axle its right next to the oil filter. I had mine literally pour oil out of where the wire/plug goes into the sensor there's a diaphragm in there that can go bad. Check valve cover gaskets to there's a recall if you haven't got it yet.

if you turn your wheels all the way left, the look from behind the pass front wheel to the oil filter, the sensor is 5 inches in further.

if its leaking real bad fix it asap. they leak pretty bad, i almost lost a engine from it failing.

you change it jack up the car, take the front wheel off, reach in with channel lock pliers and remove it. only snug the new one. its a tapered thread and will crack the housing if over driven in the hole.
 
Yeah F those things I installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge and just got rid of that sensor then pulled the idiot bulb in the dash

Yea but how come it only came on after I took that oil pressure sensor out and put in a mechanical gauge? I always wondered how I was able to read the oil pressure from the aeroforce gauge without that sensor

you lost me now. theres no way to read o/p via the cars pcm.

all that pos sensor does is light up if it see's 5 psi of pressure or less, and by then its way to late.
 


Yeah it reads and reads identical to my autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge.

I've always thought those oil level sensors were worthless they should be higher in the oil pan you'd loose about half your oil before it even registers so dumb but if you can't figure out you lost 2+ quarts before that idiot light comes on your retarded lol

I figured if the oil pressure sensor didn't read oil pressure the idiot light would come on because if you have no oil pressure you have no oil

I've talked to selliot about our builds he has a bad ass turbo grand prix he said he had to hook up some special harness to his aeroforce to read oil pressure the only thing we could figure out to why I just plugged mine in and read oil pressure is because my aeroforce gauges are brand new and his are like a year or so old and maybe they updated it

Sorry for the late response. Checked the back side of the engine around the valve cover and didn't notice any kind of oil leak so I looked at that switch and noticed some drips. Called up my local parts store, went and got the part replaced it and shes back to running good as new! I appreciate the fast response from you guys!
 


Yea either plug it off or put a mechanical oil pressure gauge in they can ruin your motor real quick

Any mechanical gauge will fit it comes with the right fittings that will screw right in there they are pretty standard. I have a autometer sport comp 2 gauge it's about the best mechanical gauge you can buy autometer is the good stuff. It was about 80 bucks but even a cheap 20 dollar one from the parts store will work to that's what I had in it before.

Every motor in my opinion should come with a oil pressure gauge it's a good thing to be able to read very important.
