1999 gtp no overdrive

My sons car stopped shifting into od. Shifting from drive to 3rd gets no change in the rpm's. Do these trannys have a modulator? Any thoughts would be helpful. thanks.
 


you need a new 4 th gear hub, its a 40 dollar part, but the tranny needs to have the side cover taken off and installed. not exactly a easy fix.
 
Thanks for the quick reply Scotty, I think I will take a look. Do I need to drain the fluids to take the cover off?
 
dont think so, but you should do a pan drop and filter change, the splines wear off and they have to go somewhere right?

im pretty sure theres a how to here done by billboost37, search his name with "easy" in the search, it will bring up all his how to threads.
 
Looked at Bill's how to's and I can do this. Also watched a video, a lot of work but it can be done. Where do I find this part and gaskets. orielly has the side cover gasket but no gear.
 


the fat oval one? pinch it from the left and right side pull it off. your mushing the the sides in. theres no other clips. squeeze and wiggle it off.
 


pump shaft and pump maybe. ive not done this job myself. best to read bills how to closely, iirc theres pics and diagrams with the bolts marked to leave in and those to take out.

as i under stand it you dont want to open the valve body leaving a few bolts in keeps it on one piece.
 
Just a quick update Scottydoggs, after a few choice words the cover is off. Thanks for the help. Gotta thank Bill too, used his how to.
