1999 grand prix won't crank

I have a 1999 Grand Prix GTP that won't crank, when I turn the key to start it does nothing, but the headlights shut off. I replaced the ignition switch, and still nothing. I checked all the grounds on the trans, and made sure battery terminals were clean and tight. any ideas?
Thanks

beat the starter with a hammer while someone turns the key to start and holds it there. could be a bad starter.

you can also try to jump the starter with a screw driver off the starter wires.

I jumped the starter and it started. I had another starter laying around that I threw on. Same thing, won't start unless I jump it. Any more ideas?

starter relay maybe. in the under hood fuse box. pretty sure we got one. you'll have to check the map in the inside of the box cover.

then swap it with another relay in the box.

Alright, i've tried everything. Swapped starter relays, no go. The battery is fully charged, the grounds on the trans are clean and tight as well as the battery terminals. I pulled some of the wire loom that goes to the neutral safety switch back and probed the yellow wire, which, to my knowledge should have 12 volts when the key is held in the start position. This wire had no voltage when I was holding the key in the start position, but I can still jump the starter and start the car. This leads me to believe that although I already replaced the ignition switch I may have got a faulty one? What would the odds be, is there anything I could've over looked?

i think your right or a wire pulled out when doing the new switch.

the small wire on the starter, thats the one that sends power to the starter to tell it to crank. key to start and held, check to see if you got power there.

I do not have power at the purple wire at the solenoid. If i'm correct (I may not be), the yellow wire that goes into the neutral switch changes to the purple wire coming out and goes to the solenoid. It's all I can think is that I got a bad ignition switch, i've checked everything I can think of. (I think)

Yellow is the input to the switch and purple is the output. If you get nothing on the yellow..you'll get nothing at purple.

Sounds like something in the switch is causing your yellow to be dead.
