1999 Grand Prix sometimes won't start

Hi

I have a 1999 Grand Prix with 318,000 km on it. This has been an amazing car.

The past couple of days we have a had a weird starting problem. You turn the ignition to start, the power is there but the engine does not start. There is no clicking sound like it is a problem with the starter. You turn the key 2/3 times and the car starts fine. The battery was replaced 2 years ago.

Any suggestions, could this be a problem with the theft system?

Thanks

Ignition switch itself just sounds worn out. Anyway, it's a weak spot on GP's, so I've heard.

I'd crawl under it first, checking cable connections. In my years, I've noticed a change in temp/humidity will cause corroded batt/starter cable connections to show themselves.

Geez. Nice Maintenance. Lemme do math. 1.6 km=1 mile

200k miles. How many Trannys has the car seen?

*Still cursing the 4t65e* :th_angry-censored:

if it fails to crank again, try putting it in neutral then turn the key... going with the bad switch but just curious to see if it cranks.
if it does I'd say your linkage needs to be adjusted. just a thought of course
