1999 Camaro Z28

ILoveAudi

Never Be A Tim.
Just picked up a '99 Z28 last Friday. Took the roughly 15 hour round trip, not including picking the car up and the rest stops along the way. It's a roller car. It came with a 5.3 vortech out of a suburban, but that has got to go, so I'm trying to sell it and hoping to pick up an ls1/t56 after the gp goes. It's a decently low mileage car as well, at about 89,xxx. It definitely is going to take some effort, but I'm really looking forward to getting this on the road. The car also really needs some small cosmetic work and some different aesthetics. The rims really need to go, but we'll see because the tires look practically brand new. The exhaust tips are hideous. Tint is very much a necessity as well. Then on the top of the car, there's a lot of bubbles under the paint, which I'm guessing is from a previous owner painting over the vinyl which could obviously cause some issues with the paint, so I might see how much it would cost to have the paint removed from the top and have fresh vinyl laid down. Here are some pics as well. :D

I like the color. any plans for modding?

Of course! If the funds are there after I can find an ls, I'd like to do a cam only setup as well as headers. So basically cam, pushrods, valve springs, maybe get some different lifters as well, and then a set of headers. That would basically be it for now.

SO why not do a turbo 5.3 in it? The 5.3 is a stonger motor than the LS1, if you are swapping something in it, look for an LS2 or an LQ motor, do not do an LS1, it is alright, but to make some decent power you will be better off with the larger cube ls2 or lq, if you can find an LS3 at a good price that would be totally worth it.

This, always.

People think LS1's are worth gold too, you could buy 2-3 5.3's for the price of one LS1 short block and be further behind. I'd go iron block anyday over a LS1 if you want to make power. Nobody will care that the iron motor is 80-100lbs more than the aluminum block.

Well if you want to shell out the cash for me to do it as well as extra for a transmission, then by all means, go ahead. I'm not made of money.

Interior looks clean. Agreed on the exhaust tips. They look like something my daughter uses playing with play-doh, lol.

You do know that the LQ is a cheaper motor than an LS1 right? I have seen used LS2's for about $1500 which is the same as most of the LS1's, I would say stick with the 5.3 and get a t56 and turbo it and have a nice 10 second very streetable car. It would be the same cost as buying an LS1, the LS1 is more expensive and not as strong.

I'm not sure how much an LQ4/9 cost's around you guys, but where I live they run at least 1500. the 5.3 LS truck block usually runs like 500 around here. I wouldn't even bother with an LS1/2 just because they cost so much more.

Yeah I'm with these guys and just about everyone on the planet. 5.3 iron block build over expensive ass ls1/2 any day.

You do know you talked about boosting the 5.3 right? So refer to my previous comment. Don't know what you think a good turbo kit and transmission costs, but a lot more than an ls1/2.
