1998 4t65e hd question

Hello to all
this is my first time in the forums. I just purchased a 1998 gtp with 130k. has some aftermarket parts like a dhp pcm. it went to the dealer right before i bought it with a surging problem at hyway speeds.

this is their report
codes p1811,p0137 found coil and wire corroded causing missfire on accel and tcc pressure solenoid is failing.. replaced solenoids repaired wire installed exhaust springs on collectors replaced rear main seal and pan gasket. test drove after repairs ok now

total price 1387.00 end of report
seller drove it 20 miles and parked it because the tranny was slipping. i bought it knowing all this and knowing that i may have to replace the tranny

now transmission is shifting very funny. goes in and out of lockup at random times. slipps sometimes.

took it to the tranny shop. they claim they put 5 quarts of fluid in and said the tranny is junk.

it now throws a p0742 code

any thoughts?

p0742 is a tcc code. time to start trans shopping if its slipping.

look for a used one from a junk yard or part outs on craigslist, carpart. google, and so on. unless you can afford to have it rebuilt at a shop.

I now have no engagement at all.. used tranny it is and it looks like Ill be doing the swap myself in the driveway..

search the how to section, theres a good write up there, for the removal.

and one of them atv, or motorcycle jacks work real good for sitting it under the trans to get it out and back in.

what an awesome forum!! thanks for the help. Im sure I'll have more questions. This is my first supercharged car and I hope to get it going. Maybe I can even contribute someday.;)

Scott why do you gotta give away the ATV jack secret and the How To all in an hour? Geez man. This guy will have a great running car in no time.

so I found several good tranny prospect close to me (thanks to the carpart tip) but the one I really want is in wisconsin and has 32000 miles. allegedly. no way to confirm that because they want me to purchase it so they can have it pulled when I get there or they want to ship it. they sent me a pick of the odometer(what for I have no idea as it proves nothing) does this even look like a 1997 buick regal gs?

for some reason I was thinking the perf shift light was incorrect but I now think I was wrong and I think it is a 97 regal. still not sure I would know I was getting that tranny.

R&R tranny this weekend with a junk yard tranny from a Buick regal gs. Went pretty smooth following BillBoost37 awesome tutorial. tranny had 120,000 miles and all I did to it was new seals and filter. I'm wondering if I should run it for awhile and do a flush and fill? Its working great right now, shifts really smooth and no issues so far with about 30 miles on her. old tranny had a lot of fine metal particles and grey matter but fluid wasn't real burnt. pump must have failed. any suggestions on what to do with the old one?

leave it alone your done with the fluid change already. enjoy your new/used trans now.

unless the fluid looks funky, but if it all nice and red leave it.

I'd do a filter service (pan drop) each year and enjoy the new trans. On the old one.. you can scrap it, put a craigslist ad in for free scrap etc. Those are the easiest ways to get rid of it.

Glad the how to was helpful.
