1997 pontiac gran prix tranny slips

Have a 1997 pontiac grand prix. while driving sometimes when I push on gas, the engine revs then sharply goes into gear. Also when starting the vehicle I must let it sit for awhile running before I can go forward or back. I have checked the tranny fluid and it is fine. what else could be the problem?

Do a pan drop and change the filter. See if that helps.

Take a look at TripleEdgePerformance.com There is a few descriptions there that mention the issue you are having IIRC it's likely an input clutch seal.
