1997 GTP running poorly in boost

I have a 1997 grand prix gtp supercharged. it is running and driving fine except when you put your foot into to accelerate quickly when the boost kicks in at about 1-2 squares on the boost gage the car kind of cuts out or misses. anybody had this problem before and know what it its?????? im at a loss cause!!! And i need to fix it quick! Thank you so much!

What octane fuel are you running?
When was the last time you changed the plugs and wires?
What brand of wires?
What brand and model of plugs?

Likely you have misfires and KR. A tune up is usually all it takes to fix that.
 
I've been running regular unleaded in it. I have heard that you should use premium but it is not stated anywhere on the car so i didn't know if this was merely an opinion. It has racing wires on it i can't remember the brand. I replaced spark plugs and wires maybe 6months ago or so. Do you think they could be bad already? The car runs and drives fine and even excellerates normally on the streets when you don't boost. But when i punch it to pass or enter highway and boost gage kicks up one or two squares the car kind of chugs until i let off gas. I've heard of many different things that this could be but unsure! Any help would be awesome!

You need to run premium in it (91 minimum) otherwise you will get what you have here. I believe the owners manual states this. You say irridium plugs, but what brand/number?
 


they are Bosch plugs. Also now im having a new issue also. yesterday my serpentine belt broke on me. i drove car to gas station (ran fine) shut car off, put gas in, started it up and had no power steering and battery light was on. looked under hood and belt was broke. replaced belt and now car wont start. it tries to but won't fire up. was thinking starter or alternator any ideas on which would be better to start with? im trying not to buy 2parts instead of just 1?
 
Two things about plugs that don't work well in our engines. Platinum plugs and Bosch plugs, for some reason they have a short life span in our motors. I'd suggest swapping them out.

The pistons may be chipped due to the low octane and continued predetonation that was happening. Borescope is likely the only way to tell for sure.

The belt missing means (accessory belt since you lost ps) you may have overheated the motor. Did you notice the temp gauge or anything dinging at you?

When you say won't start, do you mean it won't turn the engine over or the engine turns over and won't start? Possibly got your accessory belt wrapped up behind the harmonic balancer and it's binding things up.
 
Thanks for the info! Should i throw some octane booster in or do i have to dump the tank and fill it up with premium? and no, the motor wasn't heating up or anything it was just fine until i shut car off and turned it back on and the belt had broke! belt is routed just fine no twists, binding, etc.
 


I would just go fill it with premium and keep your foot out of it. The regular gas isn't going ti hurt you if you drive it nicely but you need it in there when your foot gets itchy. Like billboost said, change those plugs out as well. And maybe go over your vacuum lines. Kind of a long shot but maybe you have a leak when the blower starts building pressure somewhere. There is no security light in correct? Maybe the belt breaking and the alt bot gettingthe power set the security light?

Also check all your electrical connections on the "front" of the motor where the belt runs. May have broken a harness off when the belt let go. No telling what it ran into as it came loose. Also since I tend to overlook the obvious sometimes myself, check all your fuses (underhood and inside the car).
 
ok so the crank did not turn by hand, got scared thought the motor had locked up. Took both belts off though and it fired up! also just put new starter in! Any ideas?
 
alright new news! a/c clutch was bad and needing replaced i knew this already before belt broke. reason why car wasnt starting after putting new belt on was that the a/c clutch or ac pully is locked up. is there a way to just bypass it for now? a shorter belt or anything?
