1997 Grand Prix Headlight Glue FTL!

Well, the glue they used to hold on the headlight lenses sucks. Majorly.:mad:

I've lost both of my headlight lenses because the glue cracks and separates from the plastic. The lens drops off and can be gorilla-glued back on, if you catch it in time and can find the lens. If not, you have to buy the entire headlight, which costs anywhere from $80.00 to $150.00, depending on where you get it from.
 


our headlights are the absolute worst designed, worst light output, worst quality lights ever manufactured by a major car manufacturer.

im waiting on the projectors to be done.
 
I lost count of how many head lights I replaced. Though I siliconed the last pair and didn't have problems since, I'd recomend it.
 
pretty much with a chisel if the adhesive is still there. I have heard this happening to a lot fo older grand prixs....that and fogging. my 97 hasnt dont it yet, nor my 2001. but who knows.

if all else fails...junk yards have them for cheap...
 


you can bake them at 220 degree for about 15 min. take small flat screwdriver and pry apart. be very careful here as you can deform the clear capsule. if not real easy to get apart, put back in for 5 min.

Note. while the glue is soft, get as much off as possible. next try do not know if i will use flowable silicone or Gorilla glue, since it expands(less mess)

on my old car i made homeade clears...I didn't heat it up at all just used a dental pick to tear it all out of there then used silicone to put it back in
 
I'll have to try that oven baking if mine start to retain water. I take it from Flynn..not to use a jar of pickles but Gorilla glue. GENIOUS!!!!
 


I bought a pair pair from Ed Morad about a year ago....its $200 a set for the COMPLETE light assembly and the best part is LIFETIME GUARANTEE. Word to the wise though...hang on to your old set in the event you have to ship it back to him for an exchange. That way you wont be without your car for a week or so.

most yards want over $50 for them unless they are junk, I need new ones since mine are no longer silver inside (nice flakes in there though)
