1997 Black GTP - Soon To Be Thumping.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

Mazda's been making some decent looking cars over the past couple of years. If only the 6 had more power, I would snatch one up without a doubt.

Congrats on the new ride.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

This car actually is only a 4 cylinder. That's all it came with. AWD, 2.5L, 4 banger. 30MPG.

Pretty nice on the inside for sure.

Meeeeh some of them are reaally ugly. Also the the 6 comes in a speed version with a turbo and awd. They can make some pretty nice power too.

Oh I know, I meant the mazda 6 model not 6 cylinders.

I agree some of the older ones were beat but since 2014+ they stepped their looks up imo. And they don't offer a speed version on this generation. Previous gens yeah, but those were the ugly ones lol.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

I'm actually quite the fan of a new Mazda 6. I'd take one for sure.

We just wanted something bigger, with AWD for the winter.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

Car seems to be enjoying the 3.0 pulley.

Zero KR, 16.5 - 17.5* timing (depending on when I hammer it). With stock injectors, I figured I would be going lean by now. Not the case, car still pulls a steady 11.0ish through the gears. Not even sure how thats possible. But 60# injectors are in the near future because it's a must at this point. (Since I want to go e85 eventually).

Really wish I had a tuner myself so I can keep increasing the timing rather than dropping to a 2.9.

Also, the trans cooler is quite amazing. From a cold start to a 10 minute drive to work every morning, trans doesnt even see 120 degrees by then. On a hot day, driving for an extended period of time, trans is only at 170. Typically, all I ever see now is somewhere between 150 - 170. Only time it's higher is when I'm idling for an long(er) time.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

Finally got around to doing some much needed Control Arms. For about 6 months now, one of my LCA Bushings were separated and made a clunk noise over every bump. But you know, priorities, Go fast parts > Repairs and I never cared to fix it. Until now. What I do to one side, I do to the other. Just bought both MOOG LCA's and Mevotech Supreme Poly Sway Bar End Links.

Yay for parts:

Passenger side out:

Yay for shiny parts:

When replacing the drivers side, the round control arm bushing literally fell out and rolled across my garage floor when I pulled the control arm out. Yikes. :th_shakinghead1:

I also changed my rear passenger side Window Motor & Regulator. Regulator cable snapped, and the window would keep falling down, so I jammed a board under there until I decided to spend the money on repairs.

Lastly, I replaced a bunch of exterior lights with LEDs from Diode Dynamics. Glad I went with a more expensive quality LED because they look legit.

BUT I have one more issue I need help on - Stock Boost gauge wont read more than 1/4 full, my own boost gauge AND aeroforce both dont read over 2psi. I figured the MAP sensor was bad, replaced it with one from the junk yard and no change. Vacuum lines seem fine. What could be causing the issue? I'd like to know how much psi i'm making, especially on this 3.0.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

Your boost gauge taps into a vacuum line, right? I'm thinking everything is right and you might have a boost\vacuum leak somewhere. Get any pics of the new LCAs? I'd like to see what the vertical bushing looks like on those. There's mixed stories on what Moog installs in them.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

My boost gauge is tapped into my vacuum line that runs from the LIM to the MAP sensor.

That vacuum line looks fine, but I could check again. And I don't have any pictures of LCAs out of the box. I could try to get some with them on the car later today?

What's wrong with MOOG? I only hear good about them, that's why anything suspension related gets replaced with MOOG.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me, since both the MAP and the vacuum gauge are showing the same numbers. Nothing wrong with Moog, but they have a monoball-style vertical control arm bushing, called the "ProblemSolver" just like your control arm is. I've gotten mixed reports on if they install that monoball style in their ProblemSolver LCAs. These are the bushings.

I put the moog problem solver lower control arms on my 2001, and it didn't have the problem solver bushings, so I spent another 40 bucks and pushed the new bushings in.

Dan said earlier in the thread that his downpipe leaks exhaust, so I would think that is the problem.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

Check for vacuum leaks.

I AM THE GEATESTEST...

I've been watching my LTFT's and today, as the car was in park idling for 10 minutes, I saw 4.6. That's not 16.4, so no Vacuum leaks, I would assume.

I do have a leaky flex pipe that I need to get taken care of, but that's never been the issue for having no boost readings (virtually). My flex has leaked for 3 years, ever since I installed the SLP Headers.

I did go with the MOOG Problem Solvers, as they were only $45 a side. Car feels much better handling, but thats because my old bushings were non-existant lol.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

I missed the part about no boost, but as long as you have the exhaust leak your fuel trims are going to read lean. I would think the BBV failed if there was no boost.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

You went with the ProblemSolver LCAs, but not the Problem Solver Bushings. SGT just gave me my answer though, lol. They don't put the ProblemSolver bushings in their ProblemSolver LCAs, lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

Replaced BBV. No change.

Ended up finding out it was the BBV Solenoid. Unplugged it, moved some vac lines around and she gets full boost again. Car is a whole new animal at 11psi, compared to 2-3psi. Lol.

I am seeing about 2* KR and it doesnt have enough fuel at upper RPM ranges as my wideband goes 11.7-8ish. Going to put the 3.2 back on until I can buy myself some 60s.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

Here's a pull I did with my the car the other night. Would have gone above 85, but was running out of road. She moves pretty damn well for a rocker car and spins the extremely heavy 18s like its nothing. Especially when I go from a dig, I can't hook.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

i got the same problem, mash it even after rolling into it and they start to squeal lol all i got are the rockers, no other cool parts yet.

add a ic and pulley drop and idk how you guys get moving lol

Keep in mind, I'm running some 245/45/18 performance summer tires, with a rims that are 9 inches wide and weigh 5,973 pounds. Even then it still just spins. Which is why I didn't mash the pedal until 20+ mph.
