Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

You have functioning PCV in the rear, right? I wish I could find these damned pictures. I see them whenever I'm NOT looking for them of course.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

But my Northstar already has a nipple on it, so no drilling and tapping required.

I wish the last picture worked so I could see how tapped the front valve cover.

I'm assuming I do.

But for knowledge sake, how do you make the rear functional as well?

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

So that thread shows you have to drill and tap a hole in the PCV channel on the Gen V?

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

If you are interested, I have an oil cap with a tube so you csv run a vacuum line from the front valve cover to the throttle body or where ever

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

I've been looking around this whole time lol. I think I'm getting it, but PM sseilmnop He's on right now and he'd be the best person to ask.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

20 shipped, I think I can fit it in a small flat rate envelope. it might be in my garage down at my house, if it is, I will have to see if someone can bring it up to where we live now. if you want to pm me your cell phone number, I will text you some pictures of it.

wife and I had to move because of employment changes

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

Found out my rear PCV is functional, but the front is blocked, so thanks to SgtMarshal, I picked up a nifty oil cap from him that will allow my front PCV to work.

Also, I had yet another vacuum coming from the core, so for the third time I pulled everything off and resealed it with A LOT of copper RTV. After I let the RTV dry for 24 hours before even starting the car, I still have a very minor vacuum leak somewhere. I can't seem to find it, and my LTFT only go 16.4 every so often. Frustrating.

During this time, I also decided to install my transmission cooler. Install was very straight forward and this should keep the trans ice cold. It's good for 28,000 GVW, so that should easily cover a Grand Prix. Lol.

Trans cooler mounted, little crooked thanks to my method, "No measuring required, just drill holes":

Cooler lines ran and ziptied away:

New oil cap:

T'd in the vacuum line for the oil cap back here, off the TB and Gen V PCV Nipple:

Final product, as she sits:

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

I need to finish reading up on PCV for this stuff and try to put together one thread for it all. Damn. Anyways, transmission temperature is no longer an issue, haha. You try the redneck smoke test for the vacuum leak hunt yet? I tracked down a vacuum leak that way, ended up being my valve cover gasket, lol.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

Hey guys, just popping in on the PCV thing... did you know PCV valves are marked with a letter inside the nipple? Many don't. It indicates the strength or size of the guts and how they meter vaccum. Never have found a chart anywhere but did some research of my own that helped at the time I was struggling with an issue. On a V8. New junk is probably different but its a tidbit of info just in case. Carry on

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

Took the car for an hour ride to my girlfriends parents house. It's a 90 degree out, with AC on max, engine temp at 200. Trans wouldn't budge above 170 degrees.

Now that my engine runs too hot occasionally, it might be time for a new radiator. Since I have an external trans cooler now, I might go with the big zzp aluminum oversized radiator.

A stock replacement will have your engine running at good Temps, a bigger radiator won't make a big difference, in my opinion.

Glad to see you got that vacuum line hooked up good to the oil cap. You might have an exhaust leak

I actually do have an exhaust leak. Have had it for SO long.

SLP single walled flex, FTL.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

I could get the replaced with my next paycheck.

Hard to believe it would cost alot to get a new double walled welded in. Just sucks it's in a somewhat tight area.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

I can't, it's all welded together. Where ever I take it, might have to drop the rear header then undo the exhaust hangers for more room.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Transmission Cooler, Installed.

Uh oh. Do I see a smaller pulley now?

Girlfriend and I picked up this ride as well. 2016 Mazda Cx-5. Fully loaded besides leather and sportier rims. 249 miles on the odometer.
