Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

Little bit of convincing here and there, and I decided to pull the trigger on an external Trans Cooler.

Same one Blueguy has on his GXP.

Long Tru-Cool 28,000 GVW. Since my transmission hates my face and the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts are slowly getting worse. It wouldn't hurt to add a trans cooler to keep temperatures down and prolong the life of the trans a wee bit longer.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

where are you going to mount the cooler?

I plan on putting it in front of the radiator, obviously, and on the passenger side. I have yet to determine how I'm going to mount it. I'll just have to figure something out when I see the brackets.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

I have a transmission cooler that I want to install, but it didnt come with any mounts or brackets, so mine will probably need a custom install. Im curious how your install goes.

What trans cooler does come with brackets? lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

It sounded like Dans Trans cooler came with mounts, but apparently not

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

It's the same kit that I got from Tru-Cool. It comes with everything needed (hose, clamps, zip-ties, bolts/nuts/washers, bendable brackets) for the install. Was easy considering everything it came with.

Man they jacked the price, too LOL.

It was $89.99 last fall lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

Since I had a vacuum leak, I decided to pull the blower and core off and re-seal with Copper RTV and get rid of the Garleak. After pulling the blower off, I noticed this. (Don't mind the large gob of RTV on the lower corner of the core. Had a huge vac leak there, so I threw a bunch of RTV on the outside to seal it. But re-did it all today and no more of that mess).

Now, I'm assuming that's from a non-functional PCV. BUT, my core does have the PCV hole through it, and I have the nipple on the back of the Gen V hooked up to the Throttle body.

Rear PCV is functional, but possibly not the front. I dont know. Might be time for an oil catch can, if that's the fix?

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

Im not sure what an oil catch can does, but you are going to want that pcv to be functional, if possible, otherwise you will have a lot of crankcase pressure and oil will squirt out your dipstick tube.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

But that's the thing...

How do I make the PCV functional at this point? If prefer to not run a Valve cover breather.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

I was thinking you'd have to T off the line coming from the TB and drill\tap the front valve cover?

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

The line off my Northstar Throttle Body goes to the Nipple on the back of the Gen V.

I would splice a T in there, and run a vacuum line to the front valve cover?

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Full Size Intercooler, Installed.

I've seen that thread. Doesn't help me because I have a Northstar Throttle body and not stock.
