Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

I never got a smoke show.... And I went over board lol a can in the tank and a can in the booster line. It was buy one get one free lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

Grand Prixs Of North America • View topic - Seafoam writeup

According to the write-up on GPONA he used 2 cans, 1 can to the tank, half to the oil, half to the motor. Full write-up with some pics above. Should help you out Dano.

When you do the LIM Dan, if you can drain the oil out and then disgard the oil and put the drain pan back under and leave the drain plug out. That way when you pull the LIM off and it lets coolant go everywhere, rather than sitting in the pan on top of the oil it will just drain out down the pan and have time to drain out while you put it back together. Less coolant in the oil area the better.
Then you just put new oil when you get it back together, run it for a little while, change oil, run for 100 miles, then change again and put in good stuff.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

Lol that's along the lines of what Josh suggested ^^

Either way Dan, here's the short and skinny. As long as we don't leave a pool of coolant in the oil and we change it 1-2 times, then we're cookin with crisco. It's up to you how you do it I don't really care, just tell me in what order you want the damn oil changed in the midst of this hectic weekend.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

It really doesnt matter to me. I think i'll just do it the way you always have Brando.

Doing it your way, me and you can get this damn car done in no time so we can start Josh's headers.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

Yep. Good quality time rippin yer stuff apart. I'll put you on organization duty as I rip stuff out.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

Looks like it's going to be a nice day saturday too.

Perfect for LIM and header install.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

when i did my lim gasket, i pulled the hose off the water pump, then took both dog bones off, and rocked the engine and held it forward, and then back till i saw no more coolant coming out the water pup housing.

then started to take the lim a part. i broke the elbow off, and pulled the egr tube. then popped the lim up a bit, then lifted it as level as i could off the engine and way. then i dumped the lim out. theres a lip at the edge that holds what little coolant is left in there. as long as its level.

i did no oil change after my lim job, not for 2,000 miles, cause thats when it was next due. i did check it a few times right after i was done, no milks shake, and it still runs today lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

Well I've spun a rod bearing (due to hydrolock and bad lim before I had it) and it's not fun. Sooo since I'm responsible for le vehicle, it will get le 2 changes. :D

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

^ Exactly. Had that happen to me, not sure if it was result of my doing the LIM or just one of those things, took about 8,000 miles after the LIM change with 2 oil changes after and 2 during the 8k. Spun a bearing and sounded like a clanky diesel while idling.

Better safe than sorry.

whens the last time you heard of a sc'ed engine hydro locking? it dont happen to often.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

I haven't. I'm just telling you it wasn't our lim job that fvcked the bearing it was previous neglect. My point here is that I know what it's like to be sh t out of an engine and I'm not gonna let it happen to Dan.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

that rod bearing was dead before you did the lim, the act of trying to crank the engine with coolant filled cylinders killed the bearing.

oil change is always a good idea. but if you know nothing leaked out, its not needed.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, No More Dinner Plate.

yeah I hear ya. and yeah they fvcked that car so badly. dude ran it over a stop sign of some sort and straddlled it. had a dent all the way down the underbody lol

I found narcotics anonymous contacts in the back seat ;)
