1995 Grand Prix - Intermittent start - Needles jump oddly

OK - more mysteries with my daughter's 1995 Grand Prix.


Sometimes when turning key, it takes 5 or so seconds for connection to be made. (Silent for a minute, like dead battery)


Then (sometimes) the speedometer and tach needles will jump erratically while the car struggles to start - and then does.


Sound like anything in particular?

Holy bad ignition switch! Does the car have a security system?...if it's aftermarket disconnect it.

Also check continuity from battery(-) to chassi ground with positive terminal disconnected.

Make sure the battery doesn't have an internal short. Potential between terminals should be better than 13V.

Clean the battery terminals first and start from top ^^^.
