1990 Grand Prix turbo, Max boost tune?

1990 Grand Prix turbo, Max boost tune?

This guy has a tune that maxes out the boost on a 90 Grand Prix turbo:
http://powertuneplus.com/tgp/1990tgp.shtm

Does anyone know where I can buy a chip with this tune?
I have a 90 Grand Prix I am restoring and I want to give it some more power.

Not his tune in particular, but I was hoping there were others who tried this, I cant be the only one considering upping the boost.

Chances are you'll have to contact someone with the ability to burn chips. JET performance did mine way back in the day for my Fiero and my mom's Z24.

Yah, I found the burner and the chips. I can buy them online.
I was just hoping someone would have the tune, I could just download and burn.

I contacted the person behind the link in my original post in hoped he might still have the tune.
But I figured I would ask around just in case, maybe I could compare tunes, check for difference, etc...

i dont want to come in here and **** on your thread but you need to know that you cant just change the tune in the computer and gain boost which is what you sound like you want to do. it just doesnt work that way. also, i would steer you clear of wanting to upload someone elses blind tune to your car. if you want to turn up the boost you are going to need a boost controller of some sort, depending on the wastegate setup you may have to change the internal gate to an external, probably will need bigger injectors, tuning software and hardware, you will need to socket the ecu, and a wideband if you want to do it safely...

Its all good. This is why i like ideas.

Yes i already have a manual boost controller and the necissairy parts to adjust the boost manually.

I know it sounds like i want to just drop a blind tune in. But i plan on testing and adjusting it somehow.

My problem is i cant find even the stock tune anywhere. I was hoping for something i could use. Or that would be useful.

Reason i was hoping for a tune that already does what i want to do is because it would be a close starting point.

have you checked moates.net?

also. the closest starting point you are going to find is a stock file. you never know what someone else has changed, why it was changed. i agree it would be a good thing to compare to but i wouldnt use it beyond that.

As far as I know, he can't just use a boost controller to increase boost. There's a pressure sensor that will tell the computer to cut fuel/spark/open wastegate if the car begins to overboost. Changing the parameters in the tune would allow for a higher degree of boost...but regardless, the limiting factor will still probably end up being poor intake manifold gasket design since they like to blow out even at stock boost levels.

isnt there a guy Kuntzie i believe has done a lot of work on his? made like 390 horsepower.

I didn't say it wasn't possible...just that it's difficult. And a lot of work/money required to get decent power versus a basically stock 3800 swap with a turbo kit to get to the same level seems a little counter productive to me.

I got a fix for the intake gaskets.
I can manually control he boost, but yes, it will cut off the fuel and spark if it goes to high.

I am looking into everyones suggestions now. I did try asking megasquirt, but that would cost me 800+ dollars and seems overboard.

Glad to know I can read the mapping off the chip.
Does this work on the stock 90 turbo grand prix chip as well? I can read the stock tune from it?

I was thinking of this module:
https://www.moates.net/apu1-autoprom-package-usb-version-p-54.html

It says it can read and burn through USB.
Will this work for me?

If so, now all I need is assistance with removing the EGR, adjusting for a 160 degree thermostat, and mapping for higher boost.

yes the apu autoprom will work. if you wanted to go cheaper you could get a burn2 and an Aldu cable you would just loose the realtime emulation feature. so you couldnt realtime tune. basically you zif socket your ecu. throw a chip on the socket on the box and upload your tune. then you can realtime tune to the box. when you are done you burn the chip and stick it in the zif socket and you are done.

I feel like that dude's power numbers are off, given the times it ran in the quarter.

But damn, the stock turbo is done at 11 psi. That's nuts.

The srock boost is 11 PSI?
I find it hard to believe.

My car is one of the lucky ones with the bad gauge cluster. So i dont get any correct readings.

So real time tuning, i burn it then install. Then adjust tune through the OBD1 port under the dash?

Im not quite understanding that.

I will probably like the emulation because im new to this and i am assuming it will be easier because i can adjust it as i go along.
