1974 Grand Prix

All,
New member here and things are looking good for me to pick up my Grand Prix this week!! :th_dancingbanana:
Picture in my garage

The car seems to be in very good shape with 95,000 miles.
He claims no rust except for on the underside of hood.

Any thoughts as to specific areas to look at in addition to the normal areas?:th_scratchhead:

Thanks!
Looking forward to sharing this vehicle with you.
Wish me luck!

Check the rocker panels for body filler. 1973 & 1974 GM used "junk" sheet metal that is extremely prone to rust. There were also strike issues that left a lot of vehicles sitting on the line half done which may have something to do with poor bodies those years.

Buddy of mine had a '76 SJ with T-tops that was pretty sweet.

Drove it home!!
Body is in great shape...very little rust!
Engine seems tight: starts and runs well; no smoke at all.
Tranny did not want to upshift until rpm were high.
Found and I hope fixes this was a section of vacuum line at the carb that was loose. Really was the wrong size. This hooked to the line going to the modulator on the side of the tranny. Will test after it is on the road.

Thanks!

Here are a few....

That is a verrrrry nice car! you're really lucky to have that in such great shape. So what are your plans for it?

Thanks!
I feel I was lucky to get this one. I traded a 2001 VStar 650 for it.
I am the 3rd owner. In fact, I have the original sales slip and have talked to the original owner. He had bought it for his Wife, but she did not like it. He had it undercoated and also had the inside of the trunk done. Was stored every Winter he owned it. He owned it for the first 30 yrs.
The body is really in great shape.

Plans:
*Replace a section of rubber gas lines between the pump and metal lines coming from the tank. They are a bit dry-rotted.
*Raise the back so as to get the car level.
*Fix surface rust and a couple holes where the rear fender wells meet the trunk.
*Original radio is supposed to be mailed to me. Not sure if I will re-install
*Fix water leaks around tail lights
*Replace weather stripping as needed
*Replace window sweeps. Some are rotted and some are missing.

****Take it to Cruise Nights and Car Shows****
**Enjoy the Ride:D**
