16.4 LTFT at idle with E85

All my fuel trims were stable and completely untuned when i started breaking in the motor. At 500 miles on the dot, i dropped the oil and put on a new oil filter with castrol syntec 10w 30 synthetic oil. Loaded her on the trailer and drover 300 some ot miles across the state to get it tuned. I put 5 gallons of e85 in after putting new fuel filter in and completely draining the regular gas out. When i loaded it on the trailer, the tables werent changed for e85 yet, e85 was just added to get it up on there. fuel trims werent anywhere near 16.4 nor was after i got there and unloaded it. right after the tune was started, LTFT was pegged at 16.4 until going WOT, then the trims went straight to zero.

What my question is did any of u guys experience this same thing when u went to e85? Ive looked all around, sprayed and everything for vac leaks and nothing. my last resort is for me to take it in for a smoke test which i will more than likely do this week. just want some feedback. TIA

Well if your ltft's are pegged at 16.4 you are running lean. Was it tuned for the e85 yet? If not, that sounds normal, the e85 has less energy per gallon and needs to be tuned for it or you will run lean.

yes it has been tuned for e85. The night it was finished tuned, i took it around the guys block that tuned it and noticed the ltft's were at 16.4.

Ok, I was wondering if you were a victim of the 01+ Cat Diag\Fuel Dump issue. The only way you would be is if, your pcm was from a 01+.

My guess is you didn't tune for the E85 properly, tis the only explanation. I have done numerous conversions and haven't had this issue. What exactly did you do, this will help figure out your problem.

Well i didnt do the tuning. The guy that did lives clear across the state. But are u kinda saying that maybe the IFR table wasnt set properly? i know he added 30% more for the E85.

maybe someone can send me an IFR table setup for 65lb injectors with the extra percentage added for E85 so i can compare. I think im going to take my car in for a smoke test as well today.

you guys added 30% for the e85 was that after you did the correct injector conversion for switching the injectors to 65lbs injectors? As what MAf are you running is it a stock MAf or after market? and did you import that correct table for that MAf? i run e85 and never had that happen i believe when i first switched my LTFT's were already at -1.562 @ idle and around -3.24 at cruise, which is just about what they were when i was running regular gas

The IFR table was changed for 65lb injectors im sure and then the 30% was added all though i could be wrong. The MAF is in a 78mm Billet TB. Can i send u my bin file to look at it and make sure things are correct cause idk how to check that?

yea man you can send me the bin and i will be more then happy to look at it for you, btw your running the 78mm TB which calls for a aftermarket MAF doesn't it? i have never seen the 78mm in person but from what i read from zzp it says the MAF hole is closed so you have to use an external aftermarket one is this correct? if so i will have to know what kind of MAf you have (LQ4,LQ6, or maybe you opened the hole back up and have a stock MAF in there?) these are very important things

nope 78mm TB has the hole opened for a stock maf. upon request u can have them close it to run a different MAF but i chose to run stock. Mainly cuz turbo tim told me running a different maf will max out before a stocker would so i stuck with stock. Whats your email so i can send it to u?

i hear that i have a N* with a LQ4 that i am replacing with a 98 (which i am porting) so i can be back on a stock MAf i will pm you my e-mail

ya see u probably have alot more mods than i do to where u are getting close to maxxing out the LQ4?

and sounds good.

i just don't like ti IMO it takes a wee bit more tuning experience to tune the N* so i am just kinda wanting to downgrade? i guess that is what you would call it i have it close to where it needs to be but i can never get it just right other cars that i have tuned with stock maf's give me no trouble and i have those dialed in in no time mine on the other hand it seems like i am consistently tweaking it, although i do like the throttle response it gave me, but o well it'll probably be for sale here in a week or so
