$1500-2000 for build

I have a 2001 Grand Prix GTP that I want to mod. I have a simple goal in mind. We have way too many Mustang GT's LS1 anything's, Nissan 350 Z's and Dodge Neon SRT-4's. I want to run and possibly beat those cars. Where I live everyone puts exhaust on and seems to quit because they have a V8 or they just bought something nice and its "fast". So I would like some help. I was thinking of adding a 3.4" pulley, full length custom exhaust with headers (not sure what to do for muffler though...any ideas for exhaust?), colder plugs, Jet chip, K&N cold intake. I have the resources to cam the car but I don't know on these how big of a pain it is to re-tune after the installation, nor do I have the tuner. You guys know my budget, any help that you could provide would be awesome!http://www.grandprixforums.net/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=417120

2000 bucks huh?

1.95 modified rockers
speeddaddy headers
home made open cone intake
alky/meth injection
ported s/c + throttle body
3.3 pulley
custom tune
autolite 104 plugs

ive seen a setup like this run low 13's

but used online cheaper then new ( always good deals around)

this will destroy stock or lightly modified 4.6 stangs, 350z, srt4's...LS1 cars idk..you will prob be better off going with a cam but even then it would be a good race on some good tires.

catbacks do lil to nothing for power until more extensively modified
K&n intakes are decent but overpriced, make your own open cone

xp or s1x cam
speeddaddy headers
intense tune or 3800performance
mps hub and a 3.4 pulley along with a 3.2 pulley
new lifters
new oil pump
gaskets
Valve job for the heads
180 tstat
104 autolites
slap a open cone like spectra on the tb
And call it a day

As long as your doing the wor your self it can be done in a weekend give or take for machine shop time

dont post two threads....

and LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO at full length headers.... seriously have fun with that one.

Not full length headers, I meant headers with a full length exhaust not the cat back crap. Sorry for posting twice, this is my first (and second) post so i wasn't sure where to post. I'm asking for advise so if you could spare any that would be great! I would like as many opinions as possible so that I can make the decision that is best for me. American soldier....when you say alky/meth injection are you talking about replacing my injectors so that I can run E85? Also when you say custom tune are you talking adjusting shift points and the like with a chip program or the computer type that you have to buy VIN#'s for?

DevilsOwn Water injection Methanol injection this is alky/meth injection also a site sponsor
It ups octane level and cools not as good as an intercooler BUT much cheaper and easy install It will mean you would need a custom street/dyno tune

As far as pcm/chip You will want a tune either shelf tune from intense or 3800 performance or a custom street/dyno tune these will be done using a dhp or hptuner tuner chips are garbage and dont work

It all depends what kind of work your up to My vote is a cam build takes a bit more and is a little more expensive But overall allows for more power gains can get you into the 12 sec range with ease

rockers are easier to instal BUT wont net you the same gains and most on here move from rockers to a cam anyway

Matt, If I went with headers and a 3" downpipe with cat are you saying that I should just leave the rest stock? Further, where would you spend the money?

Thanks a bunch for your input both posts have givin me a lot to look at. The only place I truely have questions is custom tunes. I grew up working on 80's Chevy trucks so the computer stuff throws me for a loop. I talked to a kid who said he could custom tune my car when I was done for $200, 100 of which went to a VIN # for his tuner. Is this what you mean or are you talking dyno tuning because if you are then I would be in trouble as I dont believe we have anyone who does dyno tuning around here. Also, the same kid said that dyno tuning was crap...is that true?

dyno/ street tuning can be done on the dyno and street I prefer a street tune cause it sees real load and driving conditions and if he uses hpt for tuning your car needs 2 credits at 50 a peice
Dyno tuning is the same except they simulate load using the dyno
If your tuner hasnt been doing it for a while and knows 3800 s/c'd engines i would find some one else

As for the exhaust get speeddaddy headers its a whole headers and dp in one and throw a cat on it and if the rest of the exhaust isnt bad leave it

I run magnaflows but I like a little louder and i get killer exhaust deals

Torque that reminds me, a buddy said that I should just throw a glass pack on given that the supercharged engine creates greater exhaust pressure. Have you or anyone heard of that and if so...does it sound like crap. I'll be honest, I want an exhaust primarily for sound because I'm going to run an exhaust cut out after the dp for when I race anyway. Ive got a guy that will run exhaust for me I just want to know what to put on for a muffler.

look on youtube i like borla corsa and magnaflows
as far as a cut out not sure what gains you will have from it

i have a glasspack where my res was leading to dual magnaflows i like the sound

Not much for gains I dont think, I live in hickville with stupid loud trucks everywhere. The cut out is for fun, a six cylinder that is louder than hell is in part for the humor of it and open headers sound awesome in my opinion.

Next question....does/would the intense tuner replace having to do a custom tune because we have no people in the area that can street tune....same question for the 3800 performance

either of those shelf tunes will be good for a 3.4 set up even with a cam
Reptile on here tunes aswell not sure how far he can do a mail tune though

Im currently on a intense tune runs a bit rich but no complaints

What about, for example, AmericanSoldiers build pitch? Would a shelf tune work therw or no? And I also forgot to ask you Torque, with your build pitch what kind of performance could I expect in comparison to AmericanSoldiers? I giess I should clarify that given that you laid out the primary differences, will the car still be an everyday driver or will I tear the piss out of the tranny or the engine itself?

With an off the shelf tune you shouldn't even bother with meth since you won't see its full potential. If I were you I'd invest in an HPT Tuner, a full size intercooler, headers, injectors, aeroforce scan gauge, and various pullies to tune with, this set up IF tuned correctly should put you were you want to be. If your doing the work yourself and are willing to add a little to that budget I'd add a cam to that list. Forget about catbacks and mufflers, those mods won't net you ****. Make sure to read the safely modding link also, everything you need to know is in there.

1. Do Headers like SSautochrome's (SSAC) Turbo Kits, Turbo Manifolds, Import Performance Products, SSAutochrome Inc. you can't do headers and a 3" DP. Headers takes care of the restrictive downpipe.

2. Do a XP cam available at ZZPerformance or a S1X cam available at INTENSE-Racing.com - Pontiac G8, Grand Prix, Bonneville, Regal, L67 3800 Supercharged Performance Products, Mods and Tunes. this is also where you get your Modular Pulley systems and cam install kits and springs from. Get a 3.4 and a 3.25 to start out with.

3.Get Autolite 104 Plugs, a 180* T-Stat, and a cheap Spectre Filter from Autozone to put on the end of your throttle body.

4. PM Reptile to get your supercharger and throttle body ported, also have him tune your PCM (your computer).

5. Have fun waxing your townmates!
