14" Brakes...Lets discuss this

Tenzo tracer is the new wheels

I did some more testing this morning with the washers and it looks like you will need two washers to space the caliper center on the rotor like the F-body guys

paint ideas ;)

Lol im very interested in what your next "super-project" is going to be after these brakes. I like the fact that you go all out balls deep in a project instead of half assing it. Im sick of half assed GPs...

Oh they look amazing by the way, like a freaking GT car.

Wow, thats looks sic man.

So stock caliper bolts work? Thats awesome..
What about the brake lines?

get them on your car now dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
This is so tempting on the GTP if I didnt track it... ****..haha

Stock CTS-V caliper bolts work for us, we still have to use those spacers like we do with the corvette calipers.

Stock f-body lines work with these and my stock lines work with the f-body's but I will be getting SS Lines for these for sure

any idea what the GM colour is on those calipers, been looking for that grey look.

No clue to be honest.

Ok, awesome..

Looking buddy.. I posted this on clubgp too..

I posted. I don't go over there much, but a couple of my threads have been ported over there before LOL

I hope they clear the current wheels I have, so I can use them in the winter if I have too (but I'm looking for a winter car next year, old 80s Merc Diesel if you must know)

As far as weight, I'm trying to recall this from memory but I know that these CTS-V calipers are actually lighter, they are all aluminum and only weigh in at 7.8 lbs

The killer is the rotors, these are one piece rotors (only doing it this way for now to keep the cost down) and they weigh in at 24.4lbs which is the killer cause thats unsprung weight.

Now there is an option for two-piece rotors which can be found anywhere, I have found them for as cheap as $600 but I wasn't willing to jump on that yet until all the kinks are worked out. 2-piece rotors will be about the weight of our 11" rotors, which is a big deal.

IB people start talking about brake master cylinders....

and yes I'm aware something may have to happen with that but I will cross that bridge when I get there.

So these calipers should be back in my hands painted soon....and I was deciding on brake pads. I'm honestly a diehard for Hawk pads, but I did some research and found out the HPS pads for daily driving suck, so I'm going with NAPA premium pad for half the price.

Second part, if this does work out (I've talked to a friend who did his Altima SE-R from 12.6" single piston calipers to 4-pot 13" rotors, he said pedal travel increased some, but not bad, he then put SS lines on and he said its decent enough for him) *FINGERS CROSSED*....so anyways, if this does work out. I will need to get 2 piece rotors pretty much right away, cause I do not want this added weight for very long.

I'm hoping I can do this stuff May 18th and get it on the car. If I don't then it won't be until Mid-May

So I'm gonna Geek out:

Old setup:
12" rotors, MSR wheels and Michelin tires

20lbs + 21.9lbs + 27lbs = 68.9lbs of rotational mass on the hub

New setup (one piece):
14" rotors, Tenzo wheels and continental tires

26.2lbs + 22.6lbs + 24lbs = 72.8lbs of rotational mass on the hub

So I am gaining 2.9lbs :SH!T:

So if I get 2-piece bikini...I mean 2-piece rotors

20.2lbs for 2-piece rotors

20.2lbs + 22.6lbs + 24lbs = 66.8lbs

:D I will then shed 2.1lbs and have "hopefully" awesome braking power.

What is the cost for losing 6lbs?
About $779....to be exact LOL

Girodisc Lightweight Mustang GT500 Front Brake Rotors 2 | eBay

Having 2.1lbs per front corner will be like adding 21 lbs to my car, times it by 2 and thats like adding 42lbs to my car.

If I can drop the rotor weight and say I bought some lightweight wheels at 17lbs, it will be like I lost over 240lbs in the car!

I figure I will probably end up with some 2-piece wheels in the future as well trying to drop some more weight...but thats a VERY distant future.

This is why you should have simply gone with F body rotors.

they're 3 pounds lighter than your factories and larger in diameter.

Then run GXP rear's and call it a day.

Your increased spring rate and dampening will take care of the rest.

I seem to very much like my EBC reds for the street.

Thermoquiets are nice as well.
