12 year old's opinions of the drinking age

shooter, i never said i've never had a drink. i'll sit down and make myself one every now and then to help me fall asleep or calm me down enough so i can study, something like that. it's more the people that think they have to be wasted to have a good time with people, or the only fun thing is to go to bars. and the ones that call the designated driver 8 billion times, cussing me out for not being there already and other stupid sh!t. so i leave them there, they can walk home. once or twice i can deal with, but when it's a habitual thing, go **** yourself
 
<---- Almost 25, April 28 will be the day. Started around 17/18ish and drank weekends with friends and summer til i wanted to die and by the time i was LEGAL to drink... I ... didnt really want to :confused: figure that out, i kno. Never EVER drove drunk, we always crashed at friends and kept it safe but still not smart. But I really think most of the hype about it is the drinking while it cool because you cant and most get bored when you CAN buy it legally.

I think 21 is about right if not too young... IF you join military you can most of the time get a drink on the house or at least get one because you serve. And Military bars let you run wild til your too drunk to leave

I used to think it should be dropped back to 18. until i got to college. almost nobody under 21 that i know has the ability to drink responsibly. it's extremely common to stand over a passed out friend on the weekend and debate weather or not to take him to the hospital to get his stomach pumped. even tonight. i looked out my window at 8:45 on a tuesday and a guy was getting taken out of my dorm on a stretcher with what looked like an alcohol poisoning. and get real, almost nobody who abides by the logic above votes, let alone enlists in the armed forces. and if you're worthy of drinking under the age of 21, it means you know how to be responsible with and, and therefore are much less likely to get caught or get drunk enough to put your life in danger.

i'm absolutely sick of this town. it's just a bunch of raging alcoholics. i'm sick of hearing stories starting with "we were sooooooooooooooooooo drunk..." and ending with "i passed out at like 4am, it was awesome!" every night. i'm transferring. i don't wanna hear about it anymore. and for every underage kid that thinks it should be lowered to 18, get some life experience. fear for your friends' lives a few times because they're irresponsible and then tell me that it's a good thing.

if your location was in your little profile thing i would say you lived in the same town as i do. im 18 never drank a whole beer. ive tried maybe a swallow or 2 of some but it all tastes like ass. everyone around here says beer tastes like ass but you have to force yourself to drink it so that you adapt to the taste of it. I always think WTF. forcing myself to like the taste of something until i actually like it is the stupidest idea ever.

edit: i also have no problem with people who drink though. But when thats the only thing you do or ever want to do then there is a problem, especially those who say its the only way to have fun. Theres a lot more in life then drinking.
 
It is admirable if you choose not to drink to the point of intoxication or oblivion. Although I have been drunk a few times in the past, it was many years ago and have not touched a drop of alcohol for more than 20 years. I choose not to drink for the same reason you do. However, for those serving their country, for those who are putting their lives on the line so that we may live in peace, there is a huge difference.

An individual who turns 21 years of age does not suddenly become a responsible person. A 16 year old does not become a responsible and safe driver simply because they can pass the driving exam. What about the so-called responsible driver who texts while driving? Once, while driving semi tractor trailers over the road, I observed someone reading the newspaper while driving in heavy morning traffic.

Responsibility lies with the individual. Driving is a privilege, as is drinking. If drinking should be 21 then so should driving. I'm sure there are more irresponsible teen drivers on the road than irresponsible 18 year olds serving in the military. Military personnel are set apart, regardless of their age. How easy would it be to turn down someone asking for a drink that was 19 and you knew they were wounded in Afganistan fighting for you? I say, give it to them, they've earned it.
 


i did a debate on this in college and i was against lowering it to 18. Needless to say, the class was 50/50 and we got a tie on the debate. But seriously? c'mon! I go to parties and these kids out of high school are the most immature people I know of, and you want to make it legal for them to buy as much booze as they want?

People say that beer is like a forbidden fruit to underage drinkers, and it makes them want it more. If you made the drinking age lower, the kids wouldn't want it as much....BALONEY! These kids don't know how to handle themselves, i've seen it. You make alcohol available to them legally and it just gonna be problematic. I am so sick of people whining because they are impatient. And for those people who say that kids in Europe drink under 18, that is because they are taught from a young age how to drink responsibly, and people don't drink to get drunk there. They drink as a social thing and theres not near the amount of cars there as in the US. Many places in Europe the streets are so small and compact that most people walk or find public transports. Not near the amount of drunk driving deaths as the US.

For the people who say that "i serve in the military, i can have beer" quit using your stars and stripes to get whatever you want. Just because you serve in the military, doesn't mean you should be able to do whatever you want. That's the last thing we need is to make alcohol ready for young kids going on duty. Lots of times, veterans coming back from service have terrible drinking problems. You really want to extend this to the younger people? If you drink while your off on duty, thats fine, but don't whine that you should be able to drink just cuz you joined the military. Some of these kids had to join the military cuz they f***ed up so bad in highschool, it was their only option. Why should you get the privilege of drinking cuz you joined to have a job? It's always been 21 to drink, so just deal with it. It's the worst idea in the world, and i don't see ANY good coming out of it. The world's already coming to an end with 7 year olds dancing like sluts, 2 year olds smoking in Indonesia, and now we wanna let highschoolers drink theirselves to death...

I don't see this ever being passed, but I just have a strong opinion on this. Sorry if i offend anyone. Stuff like this just pissess me off, and makes me feel disgusted to even be human sometimes with all the crap going on these days.

And you think in three years people mature enough to be able to drink responsibly?

How exactly are you supposed to learn if you never get the opportunity till you are 21?

You will do the same thing you would have done if you were 20, 19, 18 etc.

Lets make it 25 since thats when the insurance companies have noticed that people actually begin to mature.

The world has bigger issues than the legal drinking age which is oh so commonly ignored or bypassed.
 
research "maturation of the temporal lobe" and you will see why it should stay at age 21.

Starting earlier doesn't make you more mature about it.
