12 Volt Remote

Installing a new toy in the car, but need to know where I can tap into the twelve volt remote for it to be on only when the car is running or on. I dont have a repair manual for the car, so I guess I need to buy that before I do anything, unless anyone knows a simple way.

Yeah, add-a-circuits are wonderful things. There is a power drop behind the glove box with its own connector, but I am unsure if its a constant or switched/ignition 12v.
 
however, the power drop is ignition switched, not accessory switched... im a little late to reply you are probably already done with the project :p

The only wire left to do before any testing was the remote power lead. This wire turns on the amplifier when it receives a 12V turn-on voltage. This is usually a much thinner wire than the power and ground connections for the amp, since it draws very little current. It's typically about 18 ga.

I have the UP3 stereo (CD in dash) with the rear-window antenna. The presence of the rear-window antenna makes it very easy to get a turn-on voltage for this lead. The wire to tap into is the yellow lead that goes to the antenna amplifier. It turns out that the antenna amp needs the same turn-on voltage to do it's job. The bonus is that this lead is also hot when using the CD. (I cannot speak for other stereos, or for cars with the mast antenna. If you don't have the rear-window antenna, you may have to get a signal from the instrument panel fuse block)
 


you could always instal your own switch.. that what i did w/ my blazer.. just run a wire from the power lead terminal of the amp, to thw switch and the remote terminal to the other prong of the switch and there you go.. if it has an LED light you'll need to ground the switch.

only issue with that is you must remember to shut it off when you get out. I use my remote turn on lead from my radio (stock doesn't really have it though) with a relay

did you read the thread before you posted? All stock stereos have an antenna amp remote lead regardless of whether they are equipped with the antenna amp or not.

This IS the remote lead for the stock radios.

antennae is not a remote lead, turn your radio to cd and watch your antennae. I am not a fan of adding an amp to a stock radio (noise sucks, and most of those setups introduce noise) my comment was related to using the toggle switch

The antenna lead is powered on with the stock headunit even when playing CDs

The stock headunit does not introduce noise any more than an aftermarket headunit, it is poor installation that produces noise.

line out converters tend to be noisy (even the better ones can have some it bugs me maybe not you), the power antennae in my buick goes off with cd (as on many many cars)
