10ish Reasons Why Diesel is Better than Gas...

I read this recently and I thought you gas guys might find it interesting!

1. The Army, Navy and Marines all use diesel
2. The trucking, mining, aviation, railroad, construction and maritime industries use diesel.
3. The U.S. Coast Guard uses diesel
4. A gasoline engine needs large amounts of fuel to get it started, (think of choke). If you do a lot of stop and go driving, you will never EVER get its estimated fuel economy.
5. A diesel is more reliable because it doesn't have to deal with a spark ignition system.
6. A diesel vehicle holds its value better than a gasoline engine!
7. It's easier to turbocharge/supercharge a diesel engine.
8. Gasoline engines produce DEADLY amounts of carbon monoxide, whereas diesels produce little CO.
9. The best batteries are 85% less energy dense than diesel fuel.
10. Diesel DOMINATED the 24 Hours of Le Mons!

Fun fact: The U.S. uses more gasoline than the rest of the world COMBINED!!!

Posted a few of the reasons why I drive a diesel as a daily driver. Just thought it was interesting, hoping maybe someone else thought it was cool/interesting as well. Not dissing gasoline engines at all! :)

Diesel technology is pretty impressive now a days for sure! V8 diesel sports cars, diesel engines are quieter and not smokey like years ago. And hey if gas goes to $10 a gallon, we will see more diesel engines like overseas. There is a guy at work that makes his own bio diesel too for his Chevy, pretty cool. You can help me convert my Vette to run on diesel then, we will be heros!

And the military trucks I work on have International engines and are run on pretty much any kind of diesel from pump diesel, to JP8.

im intrested to see the "clean Diesel" cars performance and such I wanted to do a duramax swap into my 86 c30 But i will admit im not that advanced.....

Just don't forget to plug it in and make sure to add the additives to the fuel so it doesn't gel up. Other than that...the new diesels are great...the older ones still give me horrible headaches and are horrible to work on. (very very dirty)

3. The U.S. Coast Guard uses diesel

No mention of the good branch? :th_laugh-lol2:

We use both pretty equally. Most of our flightline equipment runs on JP8 simply because it's so readily available. But depending on the base the same equipment can come with gasoline engines.

What about how diesels emit more particulates than a comparable gasoline engine? Or that they emit more oxides of nitrogen, which directly contributes to smog?

I think we are missing the most important part about diesel...

They sound freaking amazing, and when you mash the gas and the black smoke billows out the back, yea thats the best part!

THIS GUY KNOWS WHATS GOOD!! Straight pipe stacks with 6" tips, Stage 1 Swamps injectors, Custom tune Swamps chip and a black smoke steroid mod on my truck... OH MY LANTA! 31" Nitto Mud Grapplers are expensive as all hell but its TOO hard no to burn them up :D

Me too... But when you work for Ford and you can get OE parts or better for cost, I could stroke ALL day! :th_laugh-lol2:

Cost me $80 for new pads, turning the rotors and a new caliper on my truck. Gotta love the automotive industry! I got spark plugs tattooed on me for cripes sake!! :th_thumbsup-wink:

Matco Tools logo in the middle... This is older, taken on a cell phone, and before it was done. You get the gist of it though :)

Another thing, regarding the whole "clean diesel"... not singling you out Wicked, but do you realize that over half of the semis and other guys running diesels are using Mexican diesel? Especially Southern California? U.S. diesel (more expensive) runs 15 part per million (ppm) sulfur standard. Mexican diesel is reported to be more the 300 ppm.

Anything 2006 and older will run just fine on either Mexican or U.S. diesel. However, 07-and-newer models with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) won't allow it and use more fuel to burn the excess soot out of the DPF. The temp of the burnt-out soot, when it park, will leave a 2 foot wide puddle of fresh asphalt on concrete. Did I mention that all of the above contributes to smog in LA and surrounding area?

My 2003 7.3 Powerstroke coal rollin SOB is cleaner than that!!

i wasnt gonna say anything but now that theyve started it i agree that i dont care for it but as long as u like it who cares what we think
