1" GMR Chain and Gears



Ok, so I just got off the phone with a manufacturer.. I need some info guys if ANYONE has these GMR 1" chain. I need to know teeth and what gear ratios, and I need to know center distance as well. They want to get the ball rolling soon as possible.
 
You can get that information from the stock gearsets...

I would offer 2 configurations myself, but you probably would be ok in offering a 3.29 ratio set using 2 35 tooth gears.

Remember that factory chains are dual 1/2 inch chains, so you really REALLY need to do alot of R-D on these new 1inch chains to get 4x the strength out of the same 1inch wide package.... I could probably find someone to adapt a 1 inch bike chain to fit onto there, but i highly doubt it would be strong enough to outperform stock.

Long story short.. just because you can find someone to make a "chain" in a 1 inch wide package, it could easily end up like the 15/16 chains did when people upgraded from the 7/8 inch chains... People found out due to the chain design that the 15/16 was indeed weaker than the 7/8.

Yes this is true. I am currently in talks with ramsey chain. Bob over there is pretty good and they do some replica borg warner stuff. We were talking about the design luckily they have all the equipment to test for HP and tinsel strength stationary and rotating like it would see on a tranny. I was also thinking about the 7/8" and 15/16" . I never really had these in my hand but it sounds like if the stamped links and pins are increased by a few thousandths it might help out. A few thousandths makes a lot of differance in strength. R&D is the real killer considering it will cost anywhere from 12 to 18 thousand (gears & chain) so I think this is really where it kills anyone from actually going through with it.

Just a note strength isn't everything fatigue life is really important.

R and D for GM is not nearly as big of a deal as it is for the average joe such as us....

I imagine there is some room for money to be made here, but if the chain is junk you just lost alot of money.....

You should post this up on the national board also. You would be hitting more people who have the chains and possibly have more to add.
