08 grand prix 3.8 cooling fans either staying on or not at all

I got 08 grand prix with the 3.8 v6..the other day my temp gauge wouldent move at all from the lowest mark,so I changed the coolant temp sensor,now it moves but it stays at only a 1/4 instead of about 1/2 like what is normal. I had my car on , popped the hood and my cooling fans keep running and NEVER STOP... yesterday my A/C stopped blowing from the head vents,I opened the hood and now my fans dont turn on at all? what could the problem be?it not overheating at all,I'm just worried that something is gonna happen and it overheat out of the blue.SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!! thanks

Well if the temps aren't warm enough the fans won't turn on again, so that's a likely situation you have going.

If the fans stayed on and never stopped that points to the new temp sensor being faulty. The fans also come on with the AC, so you could hit the AC button and see if they work.


Check fuses and if the temp sensor you bought was some aftermarket brand I would replace it with a AC DELCO part only. Then bleed the cooling system again.

ya I checked fuses and everything.i got it fixed finally!I changed the thermostat.i guess it had never been changed since it came off the line.it was open so far that it was twice as big as the new one....now it come to normal temp...the AC was running great and cold and then all of the sudden it started blowing at the feet only...

That's another issue altogether. That sounds like the Blend Door Actuator Motor going bad to me, or also known as the Mode Door Actuator, that changes the "Mode" of Climate control when you turn the knob from Floor, to Defrost...etc.

ya.i though.it might b the blend door..I've never changed those on a grand prix before...is it a pain In the butt?

I don't know, I have never done it in mine, but from what I saw on AllData, it doesn't look that bad.
