Looks like the boys rear left strut bearing is making a popping noise. Am going to replace both strut assemblies in the rear but am a little confused with Rockauto site stating some assemblies are only for 17' or 18' wheels. Son's car came standard with 16" wheels. Can anyone enlighten me on this, and which struts should I replace the old struts assemblies with?

The 16's were a standard size rim and 17's were an option that usually went with a package like the GT1/GT2 as well as the GTP (later just named GT for 06-07's). I forget the code but I think was FE3 just meant it came with stiffer springs for a handling package.
Anything that fits the 16's works with something that says it's for the 17's.
The only model that came with 18's from the factory was the GXP's and those ran different struts from the factory.
Either way you can buy struts that say they fit 16's or 17's and they will bolt in just fine.
