06 remote start problem

My mom has a 06 grand prix gt with remote start from the factory. The problem that im running into that i cannt figure is that the only thing that is working on either of her key fobs is the trunk button. normally im pretty good with electronic things like this but im stumped. If you guys have ideas thatd be great its starting it get cold out an im sure that she would love to have it work again.

Well, I’m just taking a SWAG at this. I would start disconnecting the car battery for 20 minutes, and see if the FOB works afterwards. If not try replacing one of the FOB batteries.

this is my moms car (I have an 03) but when we went to canada some how ( she says she didnt do anything to the tire pressure) it got over inflated and now the tire pressure light doesnt turn off. any chances that this would also reset that sensor?

when I got my 06 the remote sensor was bad. could be a problem with the year, IDK. Also I was wondering about that tire pressure sensor, it'll only turn on when the tire gets low? won't give me a constant reading (which I don't get), how does it define low?

If both key fobs are having the same issue you can normally eliminate those as being the issue, I would start by check the car, you may want to do a FOB relearn, ( If you find a GOOD dealership they will normally give you the process or do the process for free). As for the tire pressure issue its possible the ABS connector in the back could have been disconnected or loose. This can cause the issue, Now normally this would throw a ABS light also but I have had this same issue with two different 03 models and the connector was loose ( just needed to be reseated ). If that doesnt work might want to look into a code check if possible.

does anyone have instructions on how to relearn a key fob?

also the sensor that your talking about that could be unhooked. where is it?

Im having somewhat of the same problem. It was working fine last year and now the only one that worked was my unlock one and now it dont! But when I test the battery it shows it fine. I pulled it apart and the thing that holds the battery was broken so I superglue it and still not working!!! A funny thing is..when we went camping over the summer I got thrown in the lake with them in my pocket...I was like crap! Got out..All of my buttons worked..as soon as it dried off it stopped working! Thats why I kinda figured I was getting a short or something but now I have no clue!

ABS Sensor is located in wheel hub, the connector you will normally find behind the wheel hub its easier to see once you take the rim off. You may want to disconnect the battery and then unplug all the ABS connectors and clean them if needed.

Sounds like there is a short. Water can conduct electricity so its possible it allowed a connection for a short time to allow the remote to work ( yes its unlikely but is possible ).

As for determining the remote you need the GM or GM/LEAR number need to match. Also I located this process, and it does work just not on all vehicles. The FOB settings can also be in the factory Radio. I had a 2001 monte carlo and the setting was in the radio and came to find out the transmission of the fob signal and the main computer system for it was in the radio. Now this may not be the same on the grand prix but then again never hurts to take a look.

1. Close all vehicle doors.
2. Insert the key into the ignition.
3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver's door panel-continue to hold down until instructed to release.
4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine).
6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors automatically.
10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until the door locks and unlocks. This step may take up to 30 seconds.
11. Repeatstep 10NOWfor each additional transmitter (including any existing transmitters).
12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

You dont want to use glue you want to use solder and a solder gun. You get a kit at radioshack or walmart $10 to $20. Using glue will not rebuild/repair the connection as it will not conduct electricity nor fix a break in a circuit. But if you use solder that will rebuild the connection and can possibly resolve your issue. If you need further help with solder there are steps all over google or if you perfer I can provide some tips and information if needed.
