'06 Impala Quick Struts On A '06 GP??

Alright guys I need some advice.

I've done substantial research for struts for the 04-08 GPs and I have a few questions.

1. according to this post, http://www.gpona.com/forums/04-08-grand-prix-discussion-f19/struts-t17981.html , I can use front '06 Impala quick struts on my 06 GP Base since no company offers quick struts for 04-08 but using the front Impala quick struts will soften the ride. What I would like to know is will these struts increase or lower ride height? Also, would it be better to use rear quick struts from the '06 Impala as well or should I stay with the GP rears?

2. I also read that I can use the 97-03 front quick struts as long as I use the 97-03 LCA with links and sway bar but the front end will be lower using the 97-03 front quick struts. How much lower will the front be? Will they cause a real stiff ride? I also have the gmpp sways and 97-03 LCA that I took off my 97 GP and plan on installing them regardless which struts I choose.

3. I do not want Monroe or Gabriel. I'm looking for something that will last as long as stock or close to it. I was looking at the KYB strut plus (full assemblies) but some members say they don't last very long. what's the life expectancy of these for a DD? I was thinking about getting OE Delco's all around and swapping the original springs over but what's life expectancy of original springs? What's a good way to test the springs on and off the car? Swapping the springs isn't hard, I just don't wanna have to rip apart the struts 10k miles later cause the springs failed.

4. If I choose to go with OE Delcos and the stock springs are still good, what else should I replace besides the strut mounts?

The car has 103k on it.

Thanks in advance.

Yes to all fitment questions. Quickstruts usually raise the car about an inch and are soft as hell(bout like dying struts) Gen 2 w strutsll prolly lower it bout an inch. If quickstruts in front, do quickstruts in rear, otherwise itll increase understeer. If you reuse stock springs mebbe also change isolaters too.

I believe I remember reading that the 06+ have the 97-03 style LCA's anyway.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

If that is the case then it looks like 97-03 quick struts should bolt right on.

My '06 does not have the 97-03 LCA and working in places like firestone, pepboys, balise etc, I have honestly not seen 97-03 LCA on 05 and up

the 97-03 lca has a tab for the sway bar end links, the 04 + the sway bar hooks to the strut.

you can use the 97-03 lca if you want too. you could also use the older model sway bar as well on the 04+ with the matching lca's.

I didn't say it had the 97-03 LCA. I said it has that style. I can tell you from research that 06-08 have a different LCA than 04-05. Also 06-08 GP LCA is the same as 00-13 Impala.

Oh, if I'm going to be using quick struts, I will use KYBs. I wonder what's better, 97-03 quick struts for the front or 06 Impala quick struts? Any ideas? Also does anyone have any idea as to why quick struts tend to be soft like they are dying? sorry to ask so many questions, I just like to be through and hopefully some of my questions will help members in the future. thanks again

Who is doing the job?
If it was me I would buy the separate parts, struts and mounts, and go to town.
Whether you use your' 03 LCAs or not I would think you would get a better end product for the money.
Most reads for the KYBs failing are from being mated with lowering springs. I'm guessing you don't have any interest in that.

I don't see how quick struts are going to be bouncy, or even fail quicker than buying struts and assembling them together yourself.

I'm doing the job. done it 6 times between my old 97, my gf's 03 and customers cars. I would like to buy the separate parts and put it together myself so I could use the OE struts from delco but the issue is doing all 4 and replacing the mounts, insulators, bumper stops etc and maybe springs if they are worn but it would be very close to the price of coilovers. I would replace most of that stuff for the ease of mind but like I said the cost will be high. I thought about lowering the car if I decided do separate parts but I really haven't got the desire to do it. The roads in new england are a joke and won't be fixed for a long time due to all the towns being broke. In fact, towns around here are so broke that if you damaged your car with a pothole, they won't pay for it. Also I drive on about 50% sh!tty roads and 50% flaat roads so lowering the car could be a big issue.

Welllll...so you switch the LCAs and get the ACdelco quick struts that puts you in the 600 +tax and maybe shipping range.
For a 2003 you can get FCS(whoever that is) quickies for a smidge over 200...for all 4 from the Rock.
For 600, I would do FE3s from Amazon(around $85 each) then some Monroe mounts($100) and call it a day. Those things will take a beating.

Here is a question that will help both the OP and myself.

If we go with 97-03 LCA's do we need to change the sway bar? Or just end links?

I am looking at possibly doing the same to my car in the near future.

Also, anyone have any experience with the FCS quick struts? I saw a set on eBay for dirt cheap.

you can just use the 97-03 lca and do nothing to your 04 + sway bar. iirc they are cheaper for some dumb reason. only difference is the end link tab is on the lca.

not sure if the 97-03 struts have the mount for the 04+ sway end links tho.
