This is what I found for Grand Prix's:
5th digit (Trim/Series ID): C = GXP Sedan; P = Base Sedan; R = GT Sedan
8th digit (Engine ID): 2 = 3.8L V6 N/A; 4 = 3.8L V6 S/C; C = 5.3L V8 N/A
10th digit (Year ID): 1 = 2001, 2 = 2002, 3 = 2003, 4 = 2004, 5 = 2005, 6 = 2006, 7 = 2007, 8 = 2008
