05 gtp comp g vs 08 gxp?

miller

basicaly those are the two cars im looking at, 05 has 27000 miles and minor scratches, the 08 has 12000 miles and is perfect

the 05 comp g is 15,500 including tax, and the gxp is 21,900 including tax

both drive perfectly, gtp has sunroof, gxp has sunroof, monsoon audio system and the inside chrome (along with all the standard features)

which do you feel is the best car to buy?

Gxp!!!!!!!!! V8

I have no idea how familiar you are with the Grand Prix. Just incase your new, GTP= V6 Supercharged GXP= V8 Gas milage of the V6 till you get on the gas:)

GXP. Even though I like both cars and motors, still like to have the V8. Wonder if I can do a V8 swap in my 97GTP?????

Here is another factor in the purchase of my new car, I'm 19 and going to college. I dont have tons of money to work with. I can just about pay off 16,500 dollars by the end of the summer (working 2 jobs) but to get a 22,000 dollar car i would have to take out a loan that comes to about 150 dollars a month. Thats pretty hard to keep up with when I have to cut back to one job that pays 60 dollars a week durring the winter.

Basicaly, I could only afford the gxp if its "really really REALLY worth it", so is it that much better than a comp g?

Also why do you say the gxp is laughable? I found it to be the most fun car since I test drove a trans am (and way more fun than my sho)

Hey guys New to the whole Gp game but I Just picked up my 08 gxp about 2 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. Almost the same set up as your looking at little less miles The thing I like about it is everyone asks me what it is, the gxp just looks bad ass and barely resembles other GP's. NOt that other Gp's aren't tight but im all bout that having something diff. Heres some thoughts thought my self i had a payment either way i figured id get somthin that down the road I would still be happy paying for. 2. The gxp get just about the same MPG ( when your not into it) as a v6 GP plus with a comparable Stock GP my insurance quote was just about the same 3. tight rims stock (one less expense down the road) ,Suede inserts, Monsoon system, etc.

I would talk down the price on the GXP. Right now they, the automotive industry and dealers alike, are hurting to offload their current inventory. I bet you could probably talk him down to like the 18k range on the GXP. You wont go wrong either with the Comp G with the Gen 5 SC in it and the sportier suspension. But I would work on widdling them down on the price of the GXP first.

There might not be as many add on options to the GXP currently, except for the turbo and muffler packages, but the GXP really packs a good punch with the V8 it has. You lose the HP with the Comp G, but gain a bit more stability in the car and you can tweek the engine a bit more than the GXP's. Both are going to have run Premium Gas so that really does not factor to much into the equation here.

I guess though like you said, it comes down to budget and which you can fit in the best. If the GXP and the Comp G are at different dealers, I would say to the one with the GXP you found one at another dealership with say a couple thousand more miles and their and they want only 18,500 for it. And see if they bite. If they dont, start to walk out. I am sure they will try and reel you back in :)

Good luck either way you go.

Ive been running regular in my gxp and it runs fine a little less peppy but im not beating on it.
um...not to sound like a smart-@$$, but I'm sure there's a reason they tell you to use Premium fuel ONLY. You just spent how much on your GXP?...i would say protect your investment and take care of the car the way they tell you to, warranty will not cover whatever messes up from running the wrong octane fuel through a high performance V8. That is driver error, not manufacturer defect. Im not trying to sound rude and you have every right to take care of your car however YOU choose to do so, just my suggestion. then again, im not sure what repurcussions may arise as a result of running regular through an engine tuned for Premium fuel, maybe nothing. OR it could all be a conspiracy between the dealerships and gas companies, haha, i wouldnt be surprised...

X2 on what was said here...... I am a little more bias though, I would say CompG.

i would deffinatly go with the comp g i did and it was well worth it for $11,500 with 40,000 miles and im paying for college and working full time

All depends if you think you're going to want to mod it later. There aren't many mods for the GXP, and with the large aftermarket for the 3800, you can mod a CompG to be faster and quicker than the GXP.

I decided on the GXP because I like the front fascia on the GXP much more than the one on the other trim levels, and because I prefer the growl and rumble of a V8 over the whine of a supercharger (even though supercharger whine does kick ass).

Look at it this way; you either end up with a screaming banshee or a roaring beast. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Just listen to your heart AND your wallet.

Comp G all they way!!!!!! Ok I'm a bit one sided, but like stated here there are things to make it quicker than a GXP. The handling is much better and that is what I bought mine for.

get the comp g. the v8 in the gxp is no better than the s/c v6 in the comp g. you also wont pay as much for gas and have a better aftermarket.

I loved my 05 GTP it seemed to have more pep then my 07! One thing I hate about pontiac but will get over is the fact its front wheel drive...and a GXP is V8 and front wheel drive...and to me thats pointless to have all that power on the front wheels...

this was 5 months ago, did he get the car yet??

i would also say comp g tho. far better handeling and enough performance to keep up with the gxp with alot better aftermarket, plus maintence is easier. have you ever tried to work on a v8 cramed into a front wheel drive?? not easy
