05 GP Front Speaker Replacement Issues

Ok so I have been slowly upgrading the audio system in my car. I have a base GP no monsoon system. I recently put in

Kenwood DNX692
Rockford P165-SI 5 1/2" Components
Rockford P1692 6x9

I used a PAC module for wiring and metro adapters for the speaker connections. Now the rears sound great. Less bass but better mids and crisp highs which is what I want since I will be adding a sub and amp soon. The fronts however sound awful. They are components with a built in crossover. I can't turn the head unit up past like 10 without them distorting bad. These are brand new so I doubt they are bad out of the box so something has to be off. Anyone have any ideas?

Shot in the dark here, but maybe one of the resistors in the crossovers was damaged somehow and its sending a full range signal to the tweeter? It would definitely cause massive distortion, but after looking at the speakers I'd be hard pressed to go that route. The crossover network is contained in the woofer. Who knows, I'd try hooking them up as the rears and see if you still get distortion. Could be a headunit issue.
 
Got it all figured out today. I was about to just throw the old ones back in and send them back but I made up wires to go from the head unit to the speaker with it sitting in my lap and everything worked perfect. So I found that the adapter for the factory plug was backwards and reversed the polarity. Cut the connectors and put my own on there now everything is good to go.
