I know theres a writeup on a FWI for the 03 and older but is there anyone with a writeup or tips for an 05?? I have a Open cone right now (i know its killing me) the cone is where the airbox used to be. Also I believe that I have a 3" tube connecting to the cone.... How would I get a 4" to fit onto the TB? Any help would be appreciated.

if the cone is where the air box used to be you dont have an open cone and your intake is fine. an open cone is JUST a cone filter on the throttle body, no tubing. you need a reducer to fit 4" piping on the throttle body. also, the motors are the same, why would the 97-03 setup not work?

I know the motors are pretty much the same but I am assuming that the fenders are of different design. Just not sure where or how to cut a hole on the inner fender to put the cone into.... also wouldnt that be bad for winter when snow gets into the fender?

the 04+ have a weird MAF and the biggest you can go is 3 inch. there have been some people that have done 4 inch and it thhrew codes and what not and some have got away with it.

i dont see the point in going bigger than 3in anyways cause your just creating a coke bottle effect if you have to down size to go into the throttle body.

i would stay away from a fenderwall. alot of water and or snow can get in there.

Awesome, I will keep it as is. A bit off topic.. im thinking of rockers for the time being and not sure how to get each cylinder TDC, I was thinking of using a straw or pencil (eracer end) and putting it into the spark plug hole and rotate the motor... is this recommended or is there an easier way?

Few reasons why I want TDC, one is that I dont want to lose the valves down into the cylindar and have to remove the heads and two I really am particular and would prefer to do it properly (without taking the heads off.)

That IS what she said

Sorry...couldnt resist.

:th_winking: thanks for being mature! but in all seriousness, it reallllllllly doesn't look like a 4" pipe will fit in that gap. If you have to, don't take my word for it try it yourself, I'm just going off word of mouth.

Just pray you don't hit a pothole in the rain, amirite?

Read my post in the other rocker threads

Well i did use the search button for "rocker" read the first 3 pages and found nothing on finding TDC... would search for TDC but we all know what pages id find on that. Could you kindly point me towards it?

Basically I just said you don't have to turn the motor to TDC...I've done like what...3 rocker installs and have never had that happen before. Just get the right TQ. Specs and once installed, keep the valve covers off, unplug the ICM at the bottom of the coil pack bracket and have someone crank the motor over by trying to start it...then watch each rocker to make sure everything is bolted down right and looks good...then re-assemble everything and go beat on it.

Whats your trick from keeping the valves from dropping into the cylinder?

If you just change the rockers and not the springs (1.84 or smaller), you don't have to worry about the valves falling. Otherwise, the pencil method works great.

Yeah...just run 1.84 Rollers...or Modded 1.9's. You don't need springs for those as long as the shift points are under 6200

Well since in not going to do a cam for a while I was going to go with roller 1.9's or roller 1.95's, so I do need to change the springs...
