ok folks 2004 GP GT that has the tilt lever removed from the column. The column is to low for my wife so i gotta fix it.I purchased a replacement
handle but when i look thru the plastic housing,it has no home. There is not even a place for a screw driver to go to release it. Does anyone of you
Fine Gentleman/ Master Mechanics have a diagram or ideas? Do i need to pull the steering wheel to remove the covers since it doesnt move???
HELP!!!!:th_laugh-lol2:

Re: First of two problems.......

mine just pulls out, and pushes back in. its a regal but some how i bet they are all the same. you need to remove the lever to remove the lower plastic on the column.

ok here is what i found after prying the bottom cover off.....the mechanism that the handle was attached to was broken off and wedged into the arm so the teeth
cannot raise up. looks like i will need to do some major column repair.

Re: First of two problems...."TILT STEERING"...

might be easier to just pull another column from a junk yard. they really dont take much to remove.

Re: First of two problems...."TILT STEERING"...

Ok went and picked up a column today, gonna try to fix the GP up tomorrow and ill

let you guys know what's missing.

Re: First of two problems...."TILT STEERING"...

ok so here is the scoop,to get the plastic tilt lever (that the handle attaches to) out ,i had to modify its pivot point. Normally you must disassemble the column at the pivot, but i wasn't
about to do that (no specialty tool). So i removed the pivot that holds the upper teeth arm for the tilt, the tilt spring and the spring for the arm.It honesty didnt take that long, maybe 45
minutes.Sorry no pics.

Uh do whut? That one would need visuals. Is it something we can call upgrade? GPF is particular about whats an upgrade, a mod, or a repair lol.

ya i would right it off as a repair, the nut PO broke the entire plastic tilt mechanism off. Definatley not an upgrade or a mod, just a short cut so i didnt have to disassemble the whole
column and now the tilt works and the wife is happy. :)

I was just messin with you but hey that pic explains it. Tilt being messed up would suck but you got r did. You need it to work in a FWD GP.
