04+ Strut Options

Well, did some searching on here and there's not a whole lot of answers on the topic. Those 04+ guys that are lowered, what are you doing for struts?
 


some are using comp g struts or they are using KYB AGX 97-03 struts with the lower control arms and sway bar end links from 97-03. Other then that all you really have are the KYB GR2's that are made for our cars
 
GR2's seem to be more of a stock replacement. Like you said, the AGX requires extra stuff for the fronts to work. Are the comp g any good for lowered applications?
 
A lot of guys have ran ssc on comp g struts. From what I hear is that it rides a tad bit stiffer. If you have comp g struts that have decent mileage than I would stick with those. Other than that the best option is kyb agx but like about would need 97-03 lower control arms but they are made for lowering springs. Gr-2 don't waste your time they ride stiffer than comp g and with lowering springs won't last long
 
a) any lowering springs will destroy struts faster

b) any lowering springs will ride stiffer than stock (especially SSC springs, i HATE them)

c) GR-2s will not blow out or be destroyed really fast like people think they will, even with lowering springs.

I have only ran GR2's on lowered cars and they dont blow out as fast as everyone says they do.
 
on stock springs? a little rougher than stock. they reduce body roll a little because they are a little tighter than stock struts are.
 
Yea i got a set off ssc springs they have been sitting here for months to be put on but haven't bother since my struts have 68k miles on them and I would be wasting my time putting them on so I'm looking for a better alternative strut to use. I may end up just getting some new como g struts and picking up some different springs
 
Stiffer ride doesn't really bother me. I really expected it with lowering the car. Whoever was gonna look into comp g struts, let me know what you come up with. What's different between comp g struts and gtp struts?
 


and a couple years was 50k miles, right? get what im getting at here..? they were never meant to be a long term solution except on STOCK springs.

WOW!! First off. 50,000 miles is a lot of miles in 2 years.
Maybe 5 years for most people...lol


and no. The GTP doesnt get drivin much. So I doubt I drove over 5000 miles in 2 years. Its spoiled...lol
 


wow, i seriously never had a problem with mine and they were on my car for over 50k miles for sure. they bounced a little, but the struts were getting worn out. none were blown or anything, but they just didn't keep up with the springs as well as they should have anymoer.
 
I'm having trouble understanding why most people are not getting many miles from GR2"S with drop springs. First I can't wrap my head around peoples comments that complain about a "stiffer than stock" ride when they install lowering springs. Seriously?!? Do you really want that soccer mom mini van ride after you put the car 1"-2" closer to the pavement? If thats what you want, take the $250 for drop springs, save about $1500 more and go the Air strut route. Personaly I hate the Cadillac ride and prefer a firmer ride. Second I realize this is a different car, but 6 years ago I had a Pontiac Grand Am with GR2 struts on the front, Gas-a-just shocks on the rear and Intrax springs. Did it ride stiffer than stock? Yes. Was the ride harsh? Heck no. I trimmed the bump stops 1 1/2". It cornered like a mother f***er, had a firm / nice ride and was a good 2" lower than stock. I have always had vehicles that I lowered or lifted, so mabye I'm just used to the firmer ride. I put 80K miles on the struts and springs until I sold the car and bought my GTP. To this day the guy is still driving it around with no complaints. Mabye I was just lucky
