04+ Rack and Pinion replacement [*]

Should be about the same as an 97-03 rack install. You have to lower the subframe to get it out, easiest is to drop the whole subframe in my opinion

what you smoking up there swiggy? lower the rear of the frame a few inches. take rack out, rather simple. theres vids on you tube, they use a lift, but the same thing gets done on jack stands.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. Its really not hard at all to do with just lowering the rear a few inches.

ive heard tails of it coming out with out lowing the frame. seems like bs to me, cause you cant really get to its bolts unless you drop it some.

I've changed my rack twice without lowering the subframe you just take out the sway bar it really wasn't that bad especially the second time around lol

and i lower the frame to get the sway bar off too lol the brake lines block the rear cap bolt, putting a socket through the rusty brake lines really seems like a bad idea to me.

in that pic you can se how tight they are on a 98 at least, i hear they got more room on newer years.

You take it out from the side? That's much easier lol. First time I saw it done was on a lift and the subframe was just about off. The second time I did it myself at bills with frame off, but we may have been doing other things on the frame too now that I think back 4 years ago.

out the driver side is easier, requires a twist and rotation act lol

at bills house frame off, im leaning towards a tranny swap.

Lol I didnt want to mess up my lines so I went out the passenger side. What about your tranny?

I'm at my car right now, working on removing the rack... that steering shafts boot is not sliding anywhere. It's rigid as hell. Do I jam a huge screw driver up into it and break it off? And then buy a replacement? It already started cracking from me trying to move it.

lower the frame some, should make it pry off easier. that boot goes up through the firewall to the column, you dont want to replace it.
