So i went to start it lastnite and it wouldnt turnover, it would just click. It had only been sitting for about twenty minutes with the key on. the dash lights went a little dim, then the tc shut off then stability system, and then charge system failure popped up on the dic. So i just left it alone because i had to go. I try and start it today and it turns rite over. Just had a tuneup about 5-10k ago. 04 grand prix gtp comp g with 104,000 on it. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated, want to get this taken care of tonight.

Clean battery post and your connection, maybe your starter is on the fritz. Check grounds on tranny housing front right and down if your looking at your motor... Purple wire i belive.

My starter went out in my 04 grand prix I used yo own and it was making the click click noise when I would try and start it every now and then

Yea i was thinking starter also.. But since the interior lights are dimming, i dont know, gots me thinking its the alt or a connection from the alt..
but yea im checking the connections now.

It could be a connection or the starter is just pulling so much power trying to crank its dimming em

Checked a few connections, they are pretty solid, i guess its the starter? The Thing is i took it to autozone a couple weeks ago to have the starting system checked and the person that did it said everything checked out fine, but all he was looking at was the tool he was using.

Oreilly told me my starter was fine when my 04 wouldn't start.. I replaced it anyways and it fired right up. The tool that most auto part stores use I'm pretty sure just checks to see if starter is working. But the parts inside of it wear out over time and will still work but just may be to worn to work enough to turn engine over

I took my first car to napa when it had problems starting to have it checked out, they told me i needed a new battery.. So i bought one and drove it for about three days and i started haveing the same problem so i had my dad look at it and we found that a wire was corroded apart on the alternater. Lesson learned.

sounds like you killed your battery. same thing happened to me the other day i got a jump and all was good maby it was just cold out so it didnt have the power to start up and the second time you started it it was warmer

Did you have any power to your car? Because i had my headlights and the interior livhts on and everything, though they were dimming.. Thats what has me stumped.

Id do wiring checks, then battery then starter in the order...least hastle. If one doesn't fix it move on to another till its fixed

I checked grounds, i checked the battery about 3 weeks ago and it was good ( i bought it 2 years ago) it might of gotten a good reading because it was charged i dont know though.
Should i remove the alternater and have it tested or jump to the starter?

While parts stores can do free testing. They aren't necessarily experienced mechanics. Consider what they are telling you and consider other issues as well.

Your car has the dumbest battery terminals ever. I'd start there.
